The makers of Zero Parades: For Dead Spies have announced a free update, and it includes a mission that sounds like it was made for the absolute worst possible night out. Players will drive a stolen truck through a busy roundabout while under the influence, and the studio is calling the whole thing the definitive edition of its espionage RPG.
A new release has arrived for PlayStation 5, and it carries a title that references the game’s own history: Zero Parades: Director’s Cut, adds roughly 40,000 words of new content, a new encounter, and other improvements and fixes. It arrives as a free update for current owners on October 1, and will also mark the game’s*. It launches on November 3, with the platform being PlayStation 5.
The Roundabout That Will Not Let Go
The centerpiece of the Director’s Cut is Quisach Roundabout, a new “dramatic encounter” about escaping the titular roundabout. The announcement describes Hershel and her old friend Ramses finding themselves stoned out of their minds, behind the wheel of a hijacked tuk-tuk, and seemingly unable to escape the roundabout late at night.
Heading home should be easy — just take the correct exit. But failing to do so could turn a routine drive into something much more serious, something that might even prove fatal.
What Else Is In The Update
Kaspar Tamsalu’s role as art director included work on the Director’s Cut also includes a new “backstage mode,” which provides a look at technical insights into the game’s development and cut content, along with related stories. The package also adds new clothing, interactions, death screens, and “atmospheric additions,” alongside a range of quality of life improvements.
The message on Steam states: “Zero Parades: Director’s Cut is the definitive edition of our espionage RPG, bringing more story, scenery and mind-fuckery to discover during your bid to reunite The Whole Sick Crew. And yes, we heard you: that includes more Melita.”
The Disco Elysium Comparison
Zero Parades: Director’s Cut sounds a lot like Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, which brought full voice acting, new characters, a new location, and more to the acclaimed 2019 RPG. But there is one notable difference: The Final Cut arrived a year and a half after Disco Elysium‘s release, while Zero Parades: Director’s Cut is dropping just four months after the original release.
In July, the studio announced plans to lay off up to 32 people, citing the reduced response to Zero Parades as the reason behind the decision.
The Response So Far
According to the report, the reaction from fans of Zero Parades to the Director’s Cut has been very positive. The release does give the game a second opportunity to reach players.
What The Update Delivers
Current owners get everything at once: the fresh 40,000 words of text, the new encounter, and the backstage mode. The PlayStation 5 launch on November 3 then sends the game out to a whole new audience.
Zero Parades takes an absurd premise — a roundabout encounter — and turns it into a game about chaos and control.
The Bottom Line
A free update called Zero Parades: Director’s Cut is on its way, and it brings plenty of new material with it. This second chapter arrives at a time when the game needed one.
This sequel offers old followers another opportunity to return to the story, while newcomers are treated to a strange and wonderful mission built around a stolen truck, a roundabout, and a questionable state of mind.
An announcement with a delightfully absurd premise has arrived for an RPG update, and it is precisely the kind of thing that makes Zero Parades stand out.
