Kacey Musgraves has gone fully Spanish for a new version of “Uncertain, TX,” and she brought in Intocable to do it. The Texan group, who have shaped Mexican pop culture with their norteño hits since the early Nineties, join Musgraves on the re-recording. She sings entirely in Spanish and harmonizes with lead singer Ricky Javier Muñoz.
It is the first time Musgraves has recorded an entire song in Spanish.
The Track That Started It
Musgraves originally released “Uncertain, TX” on her album Middle of Nowhere, where she explored the borderland history of Texas by tapping into música mexicana across several tracks. The song became a hit in the Lone Star State, reaching No. 1 at Texas Radio.
Now it has a Spanish version.
A Proud Texan Statement
Musgraves said the collaboration speaks directly to what makes Texas special.
“Having a song with the legends of Intocable is such a thrill for me,” Musgraves said in a statement. “As a Texan, I am proud of the cultural melting pot that makes our state so great and this collaboration is such a fun example of that.”
The song leans into cumbia flavor, and the new version doubles down on that sound.
Intocable’s Long Run
Intocable have been performing since the early Nineties, and they continue to draw huge crowds. Last month, the band performed to a crowd of 300,000 at the famed El Zocalo Capitalino in Mexico City to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.
Their staying power is real.
Not Her First Time
While this is Musgraves’ first full Spanish-language song, she has worked with música mexicana before. Last year, she collaborated with Carin León, one of the genre’s most prominent voices, for bilingual track “Lost in Translation.”
“I’ve always loved exploring the borders of country [music] and where it blends with other styles like norteño and some regional Mexican sounds that I heard a lot of in Texas,” Musgraves said at the time.
The New Recording
On the re-recording, Musgraves sings entirely in Spanish while harmonizing with Muñoz. The track keeps the cumbia-inspired feel of the original.
Tour Dates
Musgraves is bringing her Middle of Nowhere tour to Texas with five shows across Houston, Dallas, and Austin.
The Song’s Reach
The new version pairs two acts with strong ties to the region. Musgraves is a Texan singer who has spent her career exploring country music’s borders with other styles, and Intocable is a group that has defined Mexican pop culture for decades.
The song celebrates the Texas melting pot, and it brings together two acts who share a deep connection to the region.
The Big Picture
This is a natural extension of Musgraves’ recent work. She has already explored música mexicana across Middle of Nowhere, and “Lost in Translation” showed she could handle bilingual territory. Now she has committed to a full Spanish-language recording with a group that has been at the center of Mexican pop culture for over three decades.
For Musgraves, it is a very Texan moment — and a reminder that her home state has always been a place where cultures meet.
