Marvel Tokon PC Player Count Hits 427 as Fighting Game Community Questions Its Future

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls struggles on PC as players worry about the game's future after low sales figures and patch delays.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has been out for over a month, and the numbers on PC are not looking good. Data from Steam Charts shows the game currently has just 427 active players on Steam, with a 24-hour peak of 791 players. The all-time peak is 13,787, but those figures only cover Steam users — PlayStation sales are not included.

Sales figures from Alinea Analytics tell a similar story. Eighty-two percent of copies were sold on PlayStation, while only 18% came from Steam. The game has generated an estimated $49.7 million in revenue from approximately 750,000 copies across both platforms.

A Rough Launch on PC

The game’s PC troubles started at launch. Prominent streamer Maximilian Dood uninstalled the game live on stream during a broadcast, a moment that went viral. A patch followed quickly, but the damage was done.

Tokon’s producer admitted regaining players’ trust would be difficult. The game’s director, Kazuto Sekine, apologized a month later in an honest statement.

Leffen’s Warning

Guilty Gear and Smash Bros pro William “Leffen” Hjelte is one of the loudest voices in the debate. He wrote on X/Twitter that he plans to drop the game unless it improves by the next patch.

“I’m gonna drop it,” he wrote. “Gameplay aside, I can’t even get matches in EU, it feels like the serious playerbase is maybe, at best, 1/10th of Strive’s and 2XKO’s here.”

He added: “I genuinely think the game is saveable if they act fast and correctly, but with us not even knowing when the patch is coming and only four characters coming (no date), I think it’s probably over, at least if you care about having a big scene. Very sad, I had a lot of high hopes for Tokon.”

What the Numbers Show

The sales split is stark. Street Fighter 6 is the dominant fighting game on the market right now, and Tokon was never likely to beat it. But the platform gap is wide.

Tokon sold far more copies on PlayStation than on Steam. The game was initially blocked in 132 countries due to PSN requirements.

The player count on PC is tiny. 427 active players is a fraction of what many fighting games draw on a quiet day. The game has barely cracked 1,000 players at any point on Steam.

Counter Voices

Not everyone agrees the situation is dire. Some argue the game is too young to judge.

“Marvel Tokon came out August 6. Not even two months ago,” YouTuber and prominent community member Mightykeef said. “Not… even… two months ago. I’ve seen such an insane amount of doom posting for a fighting game that has not even been able to breathe for two months, lol.”

“Tokon is an incredible fighting game, but it’s still a fighting game. Always a niche genre. Hell, one of the goats of the genre, UMVC3, didn’t crack 600k in two months,” another pointed out.

“It took Marvel vs Capcom 2 years to become the mythical legend it is. Started in arcade, then ported over to Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox. It’s not gonna happen overnight. And I love Tokon, I want more of it. We need to really end the stupid seasonal DLC crap. Just launch with more characters,” another said.

The Scene Question

The debate comes down to one question: can Tokon build a large enough competitive scene?

Leffen thinks the game is fixable if the developer acts fast, but he doubts it. He cites the patch schedule and the character roadmap as reasons for pessimism.

“Very sad, I had a lot of high hopes for Tokon,” he concluded.

The Road Ahead

Tokon has proven it can sell well. The $49.7 million in revenue is a respectable total for a fighting game.

But the PC player base is a problem. A small competitive scene means fewer matches, fewer viewers, and fewer fans. The game needs players to watch, learn, and compete.

The developer has apologized. They have patched. They have sold millions of copies. But the player count on PC remains in the low hundreds.

Key Facts Box

  • Current active PC player count on Steam: 427
  • 24-hour peak: 791
  • All-time peak: 13,787 (Steam only)
  • PlayStation sales: 82% of total copies
  • Steam sales: 18% of total copies
  • Estimated revenue: $49.7 million
  • Copies sold: approximately 750,000
  • Game released: August 6
  • Blocked in 132 countries due to PSN requirements

What the Community Is Watching

The next patch is the test. If it fixes the matchmaking issues, players may return. If it does not, the playerbase on PC could shrink further.

The stakes are high for a genre already crowded with IP-based tag fighters. The community is paying attention.

This is a worrying moment for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls on PC. The game is selling well, but the player count is alarmingly low. The next few patches will determine whether this game survives as a competitive title.

Leffen’s warning carries weight. If the game cannot fix its problems soon, the scene may collapse before it ever gets started.
