The Now Agency is building a social distribution network, and it wants brands to stop thinking of content as a finished product. The New York-based social media agency is launching an SDN that pushes branded content toward a network of more than 50,000 third-party publishers.
Gabe Feldman, co-founder and managing partner of The Now Agency, framed the shift plainly. “Great content alone is no longer enough to win on social,” he said. “Brands need to think just as critically about how that content is engineered to break through the discovery mechanisms that determine its reach, and how distribution can scale that reach beyond a brand’s owned channels.”
The network works by taking long-form content — podcasts, interviews, live streams, YouTube programming — and handing it off to vetted third parties. Those publishers then turn the content into social-native clips and distribute them through their own channels. The content spans entertainment, lifestyle, sports and culture.
Jonathan Chanti, co-founder of The Now, pushed back against the idea that more content is the answer. “The opportunity isn’t simply to produce more content,” he said. “It’s to build a system that gives every strong piece of content more chances to find its audience. Social distribution should be treated as infrastructure, not an afterthought.”
The model changes how brands measure success. The Now Agency points out that content discovery used to rely on a creator or brand’s follower base. Now platforms share content based on signals like watch time, engagement, discussion and shares.
How The SDN Works
The network’s job is to route content from brands to the right publisher at the right moment. That means a single interview could appear as a clip on a sports channel, a lifestyle channel and a culture channel within minutes of it being posted.
The benefit is scale. A brand with a small follower base might struggle to reach a wide audience on its own. With 50,000 publishers in the network, the same content gets multiple shots at finding the right viewer.
What The SDN Delivers
The network handles several jobs at once:
- Routing content from brands to vetted publishers
- Turning long-form pieces into social-native clips
- Distributing those clips across entertainment, lifestyle, sports and culture channels
- Matching content to publishers based on platform signals like watch time and engagement
Why This Matters For Brands
The shift reflects a broader trend in social media. The Now Agency’s pitch is that great content needs great distribution to survive.
The SDN gives brands a path forward, and that path is worth watching.
