A comedy series called Happy Jack has been given the go-ahead by AMC Global Media, and it brings Charlie Sheen and his father Martin Sheen back to television together. The multi-camera show is set to debut on AMC and AMC+ in 2027, with production beginning early next year at the Warner Bros. lot.

“I’ve always heard the moments that truly matter happen when they’re supposed to,” Charlie Sheen said in a statement. “The good folks at AMC have played a huge hand in deciding that moment is now. It’s no secret that it’s been a minute, and I’m thrilled to be going back on television in such a meaningful way in an equally wonderful show. The crew has reassembled — it’s time to give the people what they want.”

The Sheens As Father And Son

In Happy Jack, Charlie Sheen plays Jack, a “bit of a lifelong ne’er-do-well” with two adult daughters whose dad (Martin Sheen) had a big hand in raising. One of them, Kate, keeps Jack’s company running and Jack functioning. The other, Sam, is a “wild child” who returns home with a new boyfriend — who is her dad’s age.

The premise covers the entire proposal: a man who never grew up, a father who raised his son’s children, and a daughter who drags a middle-aged man back into the house. That combination is pure Sheen family comedy.

The Creative Team Behind The Show

Happy Jack is a show created by AMC Studios with Jim Patterson and Matt Ross serving as its writers and co-showrunners. Patterson and Ross had previously collaborated on Two and a Half Men, although Sheen’s 2011 departure. They also worked on Netflix’s The Ranch came before Ross joined that series. The pair executive produce the show alongside Charlie Sheen, Todd Christopher, The Tannenbaum Company’s Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum and Jason Wang, and 20th Television. Eric and Kim Tannenbaum also held EP positions on Two and a Half Men.

“What a thrill to welcome Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen to AMC and AMC+,” said Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios. “I worked with Charlie years ago on Spin City, and he is a singular talent who has owned the screen in some of the most unforgettable films and television series ever made. We love this show from a great creative team, led by Jim Patterson and Matt Ross and the Tannenbaums. This is definitely something new for AMC, and we can’t wait to bring it to viewers next year.”

A New Kind Of Show For AMC

AMC is set to air Happy Jack as its first multi-camera comedy, and it will rank among only a handful of comedies and dramedies the network has ever broadcast. The most recent such show was Lucky Hank, starring Bob Odenkirk, which aired in 2023.

The past carries weight, and a sitcom represents a daring turn; the Sheens serve as ideal bait to draw attention to that shift.

A Long History Of Working Together

The two Sheens have shared the screen a few times over the years. Charlie and Martin both appeared in the feature films Cadence, which was directed by Martin Sheen, and Wall Street. The pair also co-starred on the mid-2010s FX/syndicated comedy Anger Management.

When Charlie was starring on Two and a Half Men and Spin City, Martin appeared as a guest on both series.

Why The Show Will Work

This family has real chemistry between them. The wager here is that their bond will carry over into the living room and produce laughter.

A wild daughter coming back with a boyfriend who matches her father’s age is the setup that fits the kind of disorder that defines the Sheen brand.

What To Expect From The Premiere

The Sheen family dynamic returns to AMC and AMC+ in 2027, which means viewers have close to two years to get ready for it.

The Bottom Line

The network is making a bold choice by attempting a multi-camera comedy for the first time. That format is already packed with competition, yet the Sheens bring a built-in audience appeal, and the setup behind the show is solid enough to carry their weight.

The Sheens are back on television, and the family drama comes with them. This is a show worth watching.

Seeing two generations of Sheens perform together once more is a rare treat, and one well worth marking.
