Pearl Abyss has pushed back Crimson Desert’s first post-launch add-on, Charting the Unknown, by two weeks. The DLC was previously set for 15th October, but it now launches on 29th October instead. The developer says the delay is about polish and stability, not a slip in the schedule.
The announcement came today in a note posted on X. Pearl Abyss framed the extra time as a deliberate choice rather than a problem that slipped past them. The company is treating this one as a quality issue, not a deadline failure.
The Developer’s Note
“We are hard at work on Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown to bring you new adventures to Pywel,” the developer said. “However, we have determined that we need additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience.”
That’s the whole pitch. The game is nearly ready, but it needs a little more time in the oven. Two weeks is enough to fix what needs fixing.
What Charting the Unknown Adds
Charting the Unknown was revealed early last month during a Sony State of Play presentation. It’s the first add-on for the game, and it brings new destinations to the continent of Pywel.
The main hook is exploration. Players will travel by ship and dive underwater to reach new islands off the coast of Pywel. Each island carries its own stories, starring three new protagonists: Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane.
The DLC also adds new systems. Players can build houses again, manage and rent facilities to earn cash, and grow their bonds with NPCs.
Why the Delay Matters
A two-week wait is small in the scheme of things, but delays always carry weight. Pearl Abyss is treating this one as a quality issue, not a deadline failure.
The developer apologised for the longer wait. “We know many of you have been looking forward to returning to the game and we sincerely apologise for the longer wait,” the note continued. “We will use the additional time to further refine the content and do our utmost to deliver the best experience we can.”
That’s the developer saying, in effect, that the game wasn’t quite ready on the 15th. They’re willing to wait until the 29th to make sure it is.
The Price and Platforms
Charting the Unknown costs £19.99 / $24.99. It’s available across all versions of the game, except for the Mac App Store version.

What Players Get
The DLC is a substantial addition. Here’s what it includes:
- New destinations in Pywel, reached by ship and underwater
- Stories starring Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane
- An upgraded house-building mechanic
- Facility management and rental systems
- Bonding mechanics with NPCs
It’s a full package of new systems and destinations.
The Verdict on the Delay
The official line is that the delay is about polish and stability. Players who were planning a return trip on the 15th will have to wait until the 29th.
This is a minor inconvenience. The game will likely feel better for the wait, and the extra time is being spent on stability.
The bottom line is simple: the DLC is coming later, but it’s coming with more polish.
