Date Arrives an Hour Late, Flirts With the Server, and Leaves Him With the Bill

A man's first date was so rude that his date flirted with the server, left him with the bill, and he asked, 'What is wrong with you?'

By mitch·4 min read
A man sits alone at a restaurant table, a napkin note beside his empty glass, in a dimly lit setting.

A TikTok user named Christian says his first date was so disrespectful that he ended up paying the bill for both of them. The story, shared by @christiancooks99, has drawn more than 954,000 views and 900 comments on the platform.

Christian matched with a woman on Hinge whom he called Lady. He said she was responsive through text, kept him updated on her daily activities, and seemed courteous, which he considered green flags. He set their first date for 6:30 p.m. at a restaurant near his apartment.

Waiting for Lady

Christian arrived at the restaurant at 6:30 p.m., sent a text to Lady, and waited. She replied that she was getting ready and excited to see him, but she did not answer his second text. Over the next 40 minutes, he sent her four texts, each about 10 to 15 minutes apart. She did not reply to any of them.

Realizing he was being ghosted, Christian decided to head home to watch an NFL game. He had only ordered a glass of water. After arriving home, he finally heard from Lady at 8:00 p.m., nearly an hour and a half after the scheduled time. Her excuse: “I’m so sorry. It took me a little longer than usual to get ready. I just got here.”

Against his better judgment, he got dressed again and went back to the restaurant. He texted her that he would be there in 10 minutes. Her response was blunt: “If you’re not here by 8:30, I’m leaving.”

The Restaurant Incident

Christian arrived at the restaurant around 8:15 p.m. When they finally met, Lady told him it is not nice to keep a lady waiting. Christian said she did not appear to be teasing; she was serious.

Despite the awkward start, they started talking until he brought up the time. He asked her if she remembered their date was scheduled for 6:30. Her response: “Yeah, I told you I was gonna be late, right?”

When he reminded her that she never texted him back, her answer was far from humble. Based on her tone and body language, Christian could not tell if she was being sarcastic or flirty. But he soon realized what her idea of flirting was, because she was doing it with the food server.

Lady was openly flirting with the server, complimenting:

  • His hair
  • His jewelry
  • Other features

Christian asked to be excused to go to the bathroom so he could decide how to end the night.

By the time he came back out, Lady had taken her food and left. She left a note on a napkin that read, “Went to O’Tools to watch the game.” Christian eventually had to pay the bill for both of them.

What People Said About It

Reactions to the video encouraged Christian to have stronger boundaries when dating, since women may take advantage of his kind nature. One commenter wrote, “Have strict boundaries Christian, you seem kind and empathetic and many people can take advantage of that.”

Another commenter said he should have seen the disrespect early on and not returned the second time. They wrote, “She is not very considerate. I hope there is no date number 2. You should have left after drinks.”

A separate commenter said he should have stopped responding to her texts after she was late. They wrote, “No response to 6:45 text, leave and do not respond to her attempts to contact. Everything after 6:50 is your fault.”

The Order of Events

  1. Christian matches with Lady on Hinge and gets her number.
  2. He sets their first date for 6:30 p.m. at a nearby restaurant.
  3. He sends a text at 6:30 and waits while she does not answer.
  4. He goes home after realizing she is ghosting him.
  5. He returns at 8:15 p.m. after she texts him at 8:00 p.m.
  6. Lady arrives, flirts with the server, and leaves.
  7. Christian pays the bill for both of them.

What We Make of It

This is a story about a woman who was more than an hour late for a date, insisted the man wait for her, flirted with the server, and then left him with the bill. It is a sequence of bad manners that earns its own video.

The reactions on TikTok point to a larger pattern: men who are kind and empathetic can be taken advantage of. The advice is simple: set boundaries early and stick to them. If someone is late, do not chase them. If they do not respond, stop responding.

The video has already done its job. Christian told his story, people reacted, and now he knows what to avoid next time. For everyone else, it is a reminder that a first date should be pleasant, not a test of endurance.
