Sheamus is finally free to leave WWE, and AEW wants him. The Irishman’s 20-year contract with WWE expired in July, and a 90-day grace period ended on 1 October, meaning he can now work elsewhere. That has created a situation where AEW insiders are pushing to sign him, and some current roster members are lobbying for his arrival.
Fightful Select reported the latest word on the situation, and the general view behind the curtain at Dynamite and Collision is largely positive. There’s sure to be interest at board room level, sources within All Elite told Fightful. But the active wrestlers themselves are the ones doing the talking.
Grace Period Explained
The 90-day window kept Sheamus tethered to WWE even after his contract expired. Now that it has closed, he is officially in free agency. That means any promotion can pursue him immediately, and AEW is definitely on the table.
The move would not be a rookie looking for a second chance. Sheamus is a multi-time World Champion, a Royal Rumble winner and the King Of The Ring. He brings serious credibility to any roster he joins.
Board Room Interest
Sources within AEW told Fightful that there is definite interest at board room level. The question is whether that interest turns into action.
What’s notable is the appetite from inside the company itself. Some of the wrestlers who work matches week to week believe it’d be a cracking idea to court Sheamus and find out if he’d be up for joining the promotion ASAP.
Wrestlers Who Want Him
The roster members pushing for Sheamus are doing it internally. They think the Irishman would be a major addition to the promotion, and they want to see him in action.
What was made clear is the general direction of feeling: a desire to bring him aboard.
Why Sheamus Matters
Sheamus has spent two decades in WWE, and his achievements speak for themselves:
- Multi-time World Champion
- Royal Rumble winner
- King Of The Ring
He also carries a name that draws attention. Even hardcore WWE fans would want to find out what he looks like outside the TKO bubble.
Free Agency Timeline
Sheamus let his WWE contract expire in July without signing an extension. That put him on track to become a free agent on 1 October, and now that date has arrived.
The next step is the negotiation. AEW has shown interest, and the wrestlers have spoken. Whether the Irishman decides to join is still unknown, but the groundwork has been laid.
Decision Ahead
Sheamus has options now that he is free to negotiate. AEW is one of them, and the company has made its position clear.
The wrestlers have made theirs clear too. The ball is in Sheamus’s court, and the wrestling world is waiting to see what he chooses.
This is a situation where everyone involved has skin in the game. The Irishman gets to pick his next chapter, and the promotion that lands him will gain a proven performer with a proven track record.
