“Agatha All Along” gives Kathryn Hahn the show she earned. The Disney+ miniseries, created by Jac Schaeffer, ran nine episodes from September 18 to October 30, 2024. Hahn returns as Agatha Harkness, three years after Wanda Maximoff trapped her as “Agnes O’Connor” in Westview, New Jersey, at the end of “WandaVision.”

A Coven Built From Scratch
Agatha escapes the spell with help from a mysterious teenager, played by Joe Locke. He wants to walk the Witches’ Road. She has no powers left. So they assemble a coven: Sasheer Zamata as the sorceress Jennifer Kale, Ali Ahn as Alice Wu-Gulliver, Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis, and Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal, the original Green Witch and Agatha’s former lover.

Joe Locke’s “Teen” Is the Real Engine
Locke’s character is called “Teen” because a sigil hides his name. The reveal is the best thing the series does. He is William Kaplan, a Jewish teen who dies in a car accident, and Billy Maximoff, Wanda and Vision’s son, wakes up in his body. Locke plays the grief and the “fanboy-esque” hunger for witchcraft at once. Schaeffer’s team built the role around that split.
Kathryn Hahn Carries What the Script Drops
Hahn is the reason to watch. Executive producer Mary Livanos called Agatha “heartfelt and dangerous,” and Hahn digs under the sass to find what is broken in her. The problem is the middle stretch. Once the coven is assembled, the Road becomes a machine for set pieces, and the show’s mystery box thins out.
Patti LuPone and Aubrey Plaza Earn Their Screen Time
LuPone’s Lilia gets the season’s sharpest hour. Plaza’s Rio Vidal arrives with menace and history, and the Death reveal lands because Plaza plays the longing straight. The returning “WandaVision” faces — Rupp, David Payton, Kate Forbes as Evanora Harkness — are fan service that mostly works.
A Spin-Off That Justifies Its Own Existence
This is the 11th MCU television series and the first under the Marvel Television label. It was described as the second installment in a trilogy that began with “WandaVision,” followed by “VisionQuest” (2026). It shares continuity with the films without needing them.
Where It Stands
“Agatha All Along” is a good show with a soft middle. The casting is sharper than the plotting, and the Billy Maximoff reveal does more emotional work than any trial on the Road. Three things carry it:
- Hahn’s performance
- The Billy Maximoff reveal
- Plaza’s Rio Vidal
As a spin-off, it clears the bar “WandaVision” set. As a season of television, it runs out of road before it runs out of witches.
