The 2026 Houston Filipino Street Festival returns with a new start time and a new headliner: AJ Rafael, the singer, songwriter, TikTok creator and YouTuber who made a name with his covers and original songs.
The festival takes place at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m., with performances wrapping up at 10 p.m. The timing is a shift for the annual event, which now begins later in the afternoon.
AJ Rafael and the Headline Lineup
Festival organizers teased the Rafael announcement on Instagram, calling the performance “the YouTube covers. The original songs. Red Roses. The soundtrack to an entire era.” For fans who grew up with his music, they noted, “this one might feel a little nostalgic. And for those discovering his music for the first time, GET READY Y’ALL.”
Rafael follows NPR Tiny Desk Contest winner Ruby Ibarra, who headlined the 2025 festival. ABC13 meteorologist Elita Loresca joins as emcee for the 2026 edition.
The day closes with a fireworks display, also new this year.
The Roots of the Festival
The festival is organized by the Filipino Young Professionals of Houston. It brings the flavors, art and heritage of Filipino culture to Fort Bend County, one of the most diverse regions in the nation.
The tradition began as outreach after Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the Philippines on Nov. 8, 2013 as a Category 5 storm. Millions were affected, with 4 million left homeless. Karl Justin Knight, representing the Filipino Young Professionals, said in 2025 that the festival was a way of thanking the community.
“We had a great amount of outreach coming from a very small, Filipino community back then, so it was our way of thanking the community,” Knight said. “It felt like a warm embrace from home for a lot of folks so we just wanted to do it over and over again, and here we are.”
The festival is also about service. Proceeds from the event help fund scholarships for deserving students.
Food, Free Parking and Ticket Details
The festival offers a range of Filipino staples: Lechon, a spit-roasted suckling pig slow cooked over open coals; Lumpia; Halo-halo; and Sisig. But the focus remains on the community itself.
Tickets are $19 during presale and $22 at the door. Kids seven and under enter free. Parking is free throughout the day.
Discounted tickets of $17 are available only on festival day for health care professionals, veterans and seniors 65+ with a valid ID at the box office.
