Apple’s Redesigned Health App Will Calculate Your ‘Health Age’ and Readiness Score

Apple's redesigned Health app adds a 'Health Age' score, daily readiness ratings, and a Quest lab-test partnership, rolling out later this year.

Wednesday’s announcement from Apple brought a fresh look to its Health app, along with the unveiling of the new Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. The standout addition is a feature called “Health Age”, which measures how your biological markers compare to your true years.

The app relies on Apple Intelligence for interpreting the data gathered by your devices. It introduces a new Insights tab that brings up the most relevant data, gives you tailored advice, and shows a “readiness” score.

The Health Age calculation

The headline feature is Health Age. It draws on measurements such as your VO2 max, your sleep habits, and biomarkers from your blood to gauge how your actual physical condition compares with your chronological age. The idea behind it is straightforward — if your body is aging more quickly than your calendar, the system is designed to let you know.

Should you decide to allow it, the app can draw in information from lab tests as well.

The Insights tab and readiness score

Now the Insights tab will show you what truly counts at this moment. It will call attention to current information, propose evaluations, and provide customized advice grounded in your latest actions and emerging patterns.

The app relies on Apple Intelligence for its operation, which goes beyond simple number display. Instead, it interprets the data. One illustration of this is that the app could detect a decline in your cardio health and recommend adding intervals to your morning run.

The readiness score appears within the summary of timely information found in the Insights tab. Apple has kept its description of the score brief; neither its presentation nor its measurements have been explained in detail by the company.

The longevity tab and Quest partnership

Apple’s new addition goes beyond the day-to-day numbers, adding a longevity tab that looks at your health over time. The section draws on information from both your Apple Watch and iPhone, covering sleep, movement, heart health, and other measures.

This guidance can include your own lab results. Apple has teamed up with Quest, the diagnostics firm, on a 50-biomarker panel costing $119, which puts data that can only be gathered through lab testing straight into the app’s analysis, giving users access to it.

Coaching and movement assessments

The application has become more interactive as well, offering users thorough assessments of how their bodies move. These evaluations are especially helpful for individuals who are growing older or recovering from an injury, according to Apple. The assessments are guided, with a trainer showing specific moves for you to attempt while you proceed through them.

The company frames the encounter as if a coach were standing beside you at all times.

What Apple Intelligence does

The intelligence layer sits at the center of this system, and it’s what elevates the app above mere raw numbers. Apple Intelligence powers that layer, giving it the ability to recognize patterns, propose adjustments, and raise warnings on its own, so you don’t need to work through the data on your own.

One clear sign of the company’s growing reliance on Apple Intelligence comes from the Health app, which stands among the clearest examples of that strategy being put into practice.

Release date and availability

Later this year, the refreshed Health app will begin rolling out, starting with U.S. English. Apple has not given a specific launch date, and it has not yet said when other countries will get it either.

At the same event, both the Apple Watch Series 12 and the Ultra 4 were unveiled together.

What the rollout looks like

Feature Availability
Health Age Later this year, U.S. English first
Readiness score Later this year, U.S. English first
Insights tab Later this year, U.S. English first
Longevity tab Later this year, U.S. English first
Quest 50-biomarker panel $119, pricing announced
Movement assessments Later this year, U.S. English first

Apple is presenting the Health app as something more substantial than a mere fitness tracker, pushing it toward the domain of dedicated health platforms and medical devices by adding lab data, longevity metrics, and a readiness score. The $119 Quest panel stands out as a significant move, since it ties the app to clinical-grade data that most consumer devices cannot measure.

What matters most here is the timing of the release. The Health app’s redesign is a major change, affecting almost every feature within it, from the opening screen to how information is displayed.

The firm is wagering that consumers desire more than mere step counts. It is wagering that they desire concrete answers instead. Health Age, readiness scores, and longevity assessments all represent efforts to supply such answers in a manner that is simple to comprehend and put into practice.

The Health app has not arrived yet, though it is on its way. Once it does land, it will offer users a fresh view into the information that their devices gather daily.
