Chad Lowe’s 13-year-old daughter Fiona took her own life last month, and now a family friend says the teenager was carrying a heavy load before it happened. Mykesha Robinson, a music executive whose daughter Faith was Fiona’s closest friend in elementary school, told the Daily Mail that Fiona and her family were losing everything in the months before her death.
Fiona was pronounced dead at 1:14 a.m. on September 29 at a local hospital. Her death was ruled a suicide the following day. The loss has shaken the family, and Robinson’s account offers a window into the pressures Fiona faced.
Fiona and Faith’s Bond
Faith and Fiona met on the first day of Palisades Charter Elementary School in Pacific Palisades, California. Faith was having a difficult time integrating into the new environment, according to Mykesha.
“It was kind of just really tough for her,” Mykesha told the Daily Mail.
Fiona approached Faith directly. “Hey, do you want to be friends? Do you want to go jump rope?” Mykesha recalled. Faith said yes, and the two became inseparable. People started calling them “FiFi.”
The bond was immediate and lasting. Mykesha described Fiona as “sweet,” “loving,” and “so kind.” She said Fiona was not shy about approaching others. The two girls were like “two peas in a pod.”
Their friendship began on the very first day of school. Fiona did not wait for Faith to warm up; she simply offered a hand and a suggestion to play. The result was a lifelong connection that people around them noticed immediately.
The Family Behind Fiona
Fiona’s mother is Kim Painter, a casting director who was deeply involved in school activities. Mykesha described Kim as hands-on and present, doing “service work” and “volunteering on campus.”
“So she was like the class historian and she took all the photos of the kids. She went to all the events. I mean, she literally was on campus every single day,” Mykesha said.
Kim was also very involved in school activities. Mykesha, who raised her children as a single mother, found comfort in having a friend she could count on. From the outside, the Lowe family looked like they were living the dream with their affluent West Los Angeles lifestyle.
The Palisades Fire
That picture-perfect life was shattered when the Lowe family home was destroyed in the Palisades Fire toward the beginning of 2025. The blaze claimed 12 lives and destroyed 6,837 structures, including a major part of Fiona and Faith’s elementary school.
Mykesha believes the fire took an immense toll on the family. “Something happened when the fires happened,” she said. “They lost everything.”
The destruction affected more than just the Lowe home. The school itself was damaged, meaning the place where Fiona and Faith had spent so much of their childhood together was gone. For a family that had already lost their home, the loss of the school was another blow.
A Friendship That Could Not Be Restored
Faith and Fiona lost touch after graduating from elementary school. By the time Fiona died, they were no longer in contact.
A couple of weeks before Fiona’s death, Faith joined Instagram and tried to reconnect with her old friend. She sent a friend request, hoping Fiona would accept it. When the request remained unaccepted, Faith spoke to her mother and wondered aloud whether she had done something wrong.
“I hope I didn’t do something wrong,” Faith reportedly asked her mom.
Mykesha was stunned when she saw the news of Fiona’s passing on social media. She has been in “buckets of tears over the situation” since then. She also reached out to Kim after the tragic news but has not heard back from her.
The attempt to reconnect came just days before Fiona’s death. The unanswered request was a small detail that made the tragedy harder to bear.
Chad Lowe’s Response
Chad Lowe has spoken publicly about the effect of the Palisades fire on his family. He described his three daughters as handling the devastating experience with “spirit and resilience.”
“The way they’ve handled this whole devastating experience is nothing short of remarkable,” he said in a caption.
He also called it a privilege to be a parent to Mabel, Fiona, and Nixie. His daughters are Mabel Painter, 17, and Nixie Barbara, 10.
“Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose. Being their dad is my life’s greatest joy and privilege,” he added.
Lowe’s words describe a family that has faced enormous hardship. The loss of their home, the deaths of 12 people in the fire, and now the death of their youngest daughter have tested them severely. His praise for his daughters’ strength speaks to the way they have responded to these challenges.

The grief is still raw for those who knew Fiona. Mykesha described her daughter as “a ray of light” who brought joy to everyone around her.
