Wizards of the Coast has spent the past few days dropping a steady stream of new previews for Reality Fracture, the next Magic: The Gathering set. Monday brought a fresh batch of previews, and this time the video was titled “Reality Fracture Previews: Colorshifted Classic Cards.” That title alone tells you what to expect: classic cards, rendered in colors that don’t match their usual homes.
The previews were released without a source listed, and they appear in the Card Image Gallery. The set releases on October 2, and sealed product is available to preorder now.

A Catalog Of Old Friends
Articles‘s preview video does not reinvent the wheel. It simply takes old cards and repaints them in colors that never wore them before. The effect is amusing, though it raises the question of why Wizards bothered.
There is no functional change here. The only difference is the color, and that difference is purely visual.
What We Make Of It
This is a gimmick dressed as content. The list reads like a catalog of every old card Wizards could find. It is a sensible move from a business standpoint: reprinting familiar cards means players recognize what they are getting. But it is also a reminder that Magic’s design language has become increasingly conservative, recycling old patterns rather than pushing forward.
The set itself remains unseen beyond these previews, and the previews have not told us what the actual cards do.
The colorshifted cards are a curiosity, not a statement. They exist to amuse, and they do that job well. But they are not the reason anyone should care about Reality Fracture.
