The Corn Maze Superdrop from Wizards of the Coast brings together Jim Henson’s Labyrinth, KPop Demon Hunters, and Marvel Zombies in a Halloween-themed Secret Lair release. It goes live at 9am PT / 12pm ET on October 12, with the Labyrinth sets and the KPop collection drawing the most attention.

Goblin Kindred Cards

This drop from Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth centers on Goblin kindred cards. It leads with Muxus, Goblin Grandee, who serves as a Goblin Staple posing as Jareth, Goblin King, alongside a beautiful illustration of David Bowie. The drop also features a copy of Claim the Firstborn, presented as The Kidnapping of Toby.

Trinisphere appears for some reason, even though it has no clear connection to Goblin decks. The card features cool art of Bowie holding a bunch of orbs. The fit is strange, but the card remains cool nonetheless.

Through the Labyrinth

Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Through the Labyrinth, the second Labyrinth drop, features a large number of cards whose text is nearly impossible to read from a distance. The artwork is stunning, but some of it will be difficult to parse from across the table. Wizards elected to include Leveler in this set, which can be paired with The Beamtown Bullies or Thassa’s Oracle to make your pod wish they had been dropped into the Labyrinth.

KPop Demon Hunters

This KPop Demon Hunters set delivers some truly remarkable cards with real combo potential. Included is a copy of Freed From The Real and Underworld Breach, both of which will become infamous in decks that are built around them. It is no surprise that Breach has been banned in multiple formats, given how dangerous it can be.

Marvel Zombies

Magic is still adding more Marvel content, and the latest drop zeroes in on Zombie kindred cards. A commander deck led by either Zombie Thor or Zombie Scarlet Witch might have made sense here, but none of these cards actually justify the steep cost attached to them, unless you happen to be a big fan of Marvel Zombies.

Other Drops

See Machine’s Manufactured Grounds drop pulls some remarkable art into the original artifact land cycle from Mirrodin. It likely doesn’t make much sense from a purely financial standpoint, but it certainly looks impressive. The Peace, Love and Treefolk drop, meanwhile, provides Timber Protector with its first real reprint beyond the Lord of the Rings commander decks.

Release Details

Wizards of the Coast is making the Corn Maze Superdrop available starting at 9am PT / 12pm ET on October 12, and anyone who wants to secure one — or all — of the Labyrinth drops can take advantage of it then. Orders that reach $199 or more also come with a Labyrinth-flavored copy of Maze of Ith thrown in.

The Superdrop’s main draw is the Labyrinth content. The Goblin King art stands out on its own as a reason to look into the set, regardless of how strange the Trinisphere addition feels. For players who relish a puzzle, the unreadable cards in the Through the Labyrinth drop are a deliberate design choice rather than an oversight.

The KPop Demon Hunters drop stands out as the strongest combo engine among the group. The Marvel Zombies drop, by contrast, should be skipped unless you are a Marvel Zombies fan who is prepared to spend full price on cards that do not offer value beyond that fandom.

Key Facts

  • Release date: 9am PT / 12pm ET on October 12
  • Promotion: Labyrinth-flavored Maze of Ith on orders over $199
  • Labyrinth drops: Fear Me, Love Me and Through the Labyrinth
  • KPop Demon Hunters: includes Freed From The Real and Underworld Breach
  • Marvel Zombies: focused on Zombie kindred cards

The Goblin King stands out as the standout card among the drops in the Corn Maze Superdrop. The Trinisphere inclusion raises an eyebrow, and the Marvel Zombies drop fails to impress. The KPop set carries real combo power. This drop rewards players willing to look closely at its contents while punishing those who simply want a quick purchase.
