Berlin Station is a spy series about Daniel Miller, a CIA agent in Berlin tasked with finding a source who leaked to a whistleblower named Thomas Shaw. The show follows him through three seasons, guided by veteran Hector DeJean, as he learns the rough business of field work.

The Premise
Miller arrives in Berlin with a mission to uncover the source of a leak. He is mentored by DeJean, who teaches him the craft of running agents, deception and the moral compromises that come with it. The setup is simple: find the man who sold secrets to a whistleblower.
The Shoot
Season 1 ends with Miller being shot. Four months later, he returns to duty in season 2 with a new assignment. He is told a far-right German political party is planning terror ahead of an election, and he must get inside it.
The Cast
Richard Armitage plays Miller. Rhys Ifans plays DeJean. Michelle Forbes plays Valerie Edwards. Richard Jenkins plays Steven Frost. The full cast also includes Keke Palmer, Ashley Judd, John Doman, Tamlyn Tomita and Ismael Cruz Córdova.
The Format
Epix aired the series, which ran for three seasons across 29 episodes. The first season started October 16, 2016, with ten episodes. Season 2 began October 15, 2017, with nine episodes. Season 3 started December 2, 2018.
The Renewals
Epix renewed the show twice. The second season was ordered November 17, 2016, and the third season was ordered December 6, 2017. The show was canceled on March 29, 2019.
The DVD Release
All three seasons appeared on DVD from Paramount Home Entertainment in 2021.
The Showrunners
Bradford Winters served as showrunner for the first two seasons. Jason Horwitch took over for season 3.
The Verdict
Berlin Station is a solid spy series with a strong cast and a premise that holds attention. The writing keeps things grounded in the messy world of espionage. It does not reach for spectacle, and that restraint mostly works in its favor.
The pacing can drag in later episodes, and some threads are left unfinished. Still, the central relationship between Miller and DeJean carries the show.
