A review of Disney Lorcana's Hyperia City expansion, including the Illumineer's Trove box, booster packs, and rare cards.

Disney Lorcana is leaving the woods behind and moving into the city, and the new expansion brings characters from Coco, Big Hero 6, and The Sword and the Stone along for the trip. The set is called Hyperia City, and it lands at hobby stores and Disney Parks on October 16th, followed by a full launch on October 23rd. The headline draw is the Illumineer’s Trove, a box that has become a prized purchase in past sets.

What Comes In The Box

The Illumineer’s Trove for Hyperia City includes a storage box, six card dividers, six damage-counter dice, a Lore counter, and eight booster packs. Those eight packs hold 12 cards each, which means the whole box comes with 96 cards. The reviewer got a few repeated Commons and Rarities, but the sheer size of the set means there is plenty of variety across the draws.

The Card Dividers And Storage Box

The dividers show artwork from cards in the set, including Max from Goof Troop, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Mulan, Miguel from Coco, Merlin, and Marie from The Aristocats. The storage box carries characters and artwork from Belle, Goofy, Cinderella, and Shere Khan, though it is the version from Tail Spin rather than the one from The Jungle Book.

Coco Takes Center Stage

Pixar’s Coco is the focal point of Hyperia City, and the set includes new song cards like “Though I Have to Say Goodbye” at every rarity level. Miguel, Dante, and many other familiar faces from the film get new cards here. Disney icons like Belle and Goofy also get fresh cards in this set.

Other Disney Properties Get Love Too

The Sword and the Stone, Gargoyles, and Big Hero 6 all get a large share of cards in the set. For fans of The Disney Afternoon era, there are pleasant surprises, including a version of Shere Khan dressed as CEO of Khan Industries. The reviewer singled out “Goofy – Dancing Superstar,” which has Goofy dressed like Powerline from A Goofy Movie.

What The Review Pulled From The Packs

The reviewer did not get any Enchanteds this time, but did manage a Legendary Powerline card. They also pulled the Super Rare “Dante – Loyal Abrije,” which they think will be quite useful in their current deck built around Amethyst cards. An Epic rarity card of Meilin Lee from Turning Red was also pulled, though the reviewer said they don’t think they will use it in a deck but enjoyed pulling it anyway.

How This Set Compares To Past Troves

The Illumineer’s Trove for Hyperia City is not all that different from previous ones, especially for recent sets like Attack of the Vine! or Wilds Unknown. That consistency is not necessarily a bad thing. Disney Lorcana has found a formula that works, and an Illumineer’s Trove remains an excellent way to start a collection, especially with the extra items it includes.

The reviewer noted that while they wish the set included a booklet or card sleeves, everything inside is premium quality. At the very least, the 8 booster packs are an excellent way to kickstart a Hyperia City collection.

The Set’s Full Lineup

The set’s lineup spans a wide range of properties. Screen Rant’s review’s pulls suggest a mix of rarity levels across the cards.

  • Coco gets song cards like “Though I Have to Say Goodbye” at every rarity level
  • Miguel, Dante, and Dante – Loyal Abrije are all represented
  • The Sword and the Stone, Gargoyles, and Big Hero 6 all get large portions of cards
  • Disney icons like Belle and Goofy get new cards

What To Expect On Launch Day

The prerelease takes place on October 16th at hobby stores and Disney Parks locations. A week later, the full set launches everywhere on October 23rd.

Our View Of The Set

The review describes the Trove as “pretty great,” and the set itself is described as having “a little something for everyone.” The inclusion of beloved characters from Coco, Big Hero 6, Goof Troop, and other Disney properties gives the set a broad appeal. The Legendary Powerline card and the Goofy-Dancing-Superstar variant are the kind of pulls that make a collector smile.

The set is consistent with past Illumineer’s Troves, which means experienced players know what to expect. For newcomers, the 96 cards and eight booster packs offer a strong starting point.

Hyperia City launches on October 23rd, and the prerelease on October 16th gives collectors an early chance to see what the set has in store. The Illumineer’s Trove remains the way to get the most content at once, and the review suggests the quality holds up.

Property Cards Included
Coco Song cards like “Though I Have to Say Goodbye” at every rarity, Miguel, Dante
The Sword and the Stone, Gargoyles, Big Hero 6 Large portions of cards
Disney icons Belle, Goofy get new cards

The set is a welcome addition for fans of Disney’s animated history, and the Legendary Powerline card and the Goofy-Dancing-Superstar variant are the kind of pulls that make a collector smile.
