Control Resonant’s “The Last Taxi” side quest sends you hunting multiple driverless cabs across the game’s zones. Each one honks at you, opens its door when you pass nearby, and drops you into a threshold realm full of paranormal weirdness. Inside, you’ll find another woman trapped inside each threshold, and solving the puzzle gets her out. The trick is figuring out which cab to enter.
Finding the Taxis
The cabs aren’t marked on any map. Instead, you listen for car horns. They honk constantly if you’re in the area, especially if you try to walk away. Once you step inside, always hit the payphone first. That call introduces Mila, the woman trapped inside the threshold.
The puzzles are mostly about spotting the odd one out. Some involve lights, some involve streetlights, and some involve mold-covered parts. The specific cab you need isn’t always in the same spot, so you have to look for the pattern and pick the right one.
Central Cab
The Central taxi sits in the northwesternmost alleyway. Head west across the rooftops from the Patterned Factory, and you’ll find it fast. Inside, the puzzle asks you to enter the cab with its rear lights on, the cab with its taxi light on, and the cab with both headlights and rear lights on. The eight cars split into two groups of four, and the correct one stands apart.
West Incursion Zone
This cab lives beside the Empire Avenue Station entrance, but you need Shift from the Parking Garage Fault to reach it. Backtrack from the “Empire Avenue” fast travel door, head back through the station, and turn left at the first turn. The taxi waits on the wall next to the Empire theater.
The puzzle here tracks streetlights. Enter the cab with a streetlight blinking above it, the cab without a blinking light, and the cab whose streetlight turns on at a different interval than the others.
Evacuation Zone
The Evacuation Zone cab sits at the end of an alley just northeast of the “Unauthorized mines?” label on the map. Head east, not west, and you’ll find it. The puzzle asks you to find the cab whose taxi light turns on at a different interval, the cab whose lights blink twice, and the cab whose lights don’t turn on at all.
Downtown
Downtown is the first zone you visit, but you can’t reach its cab without Reach, which opens from the Subway Fault in the Evacuation Zone. With Reach, head to Lookout Point on the east side of Downtown, then use Reach to get to the easternmost region. The taxi sits parked among other cars.
The puzzle here is simple: find the cab with its taxi light on, the cab whose taxi light stays on when you’re nearby, and the cab whose taxi light turns on when you’re near a different car.
The Park
The Park cab hides in the same parking garage as the vendor, one floor below the ice cream truck. Drop into the hole full of mold, follow the path to the second-highest floor, and you’ll find it. Fix the broken taxi by destroying mold growth and attaching the yellow car hood, tires, and everything except the police siren and white car trunk.
Underpass
The Underpass cab sits across a chasm. Ride the cable car after progressing through the “Recursions and Iterations” quest, then head to the northeast corner of the next area for the taxi on an elevated platform. Watch the streetlights: find the cab whose lights stay on when the streetlights turn off, the cab whose lights turn off when the streetlights turn off, and the cab with no lights on when the streetlights are on.
Unknown Zone
The Unknown zone cab rests on the same island as the Evac Building, the southernmost building on the map. The puzzle follows the same logic as the Underpass: wait for the streetlights to turn off and find the cab whose lights stay on, the cab whose lights turn off, and the cab that has no lights on when the streetlights are on.
The payphone call in each cab always brings up Mila, the woman trapped inside the threshold.
Each cab has its own logic, and the puzzles vary enough that you’re never repeating the same trick twice. The taxi in Central splits the cars into two groups of four. The one in West Incursion tracks streetlights. The one in The Park requires you to strip mold and rebuild a car.
That thread runs through every stop, tying the separate puzzles into one larger story about a woman who needs help getting free.
If you’re playing Control Resonant and you’ve found a cab, the guide above should point you toward the right answer. Just remember to listen for those honks.
