Berlin football came to Wilton with a chip on its shoulder, and it turned that anger into a 13-6 win. Noah Foster scored both touchdowns and picked off two passes, sealing the game with an interception in Wilton’s end zone with 20 seconds left.
The game was a rematch of sorts, since Berlin beat Wilton in the previous meeting. This time Berlin got the better of Wilton on the road, moving to 2-0 while Wilton dropped to 1-1.
Foster’s Night
Foster was everywhere. He scored on a 4-yard run early in the second quarter, then caught a 66-yard touchdown from Anthony Frayler late in the game. He also intercepted two passes, including the game-ending pick in Wilton’s end zone.
The junior said the game meant more than he expected.
“I can’t say I have played a game like that before, that was incredible,” Foster said. “It wasn’t just me, this was a huge team win for the guys. We made the plays when we needed to and I just helped out. Big time plays in big time moments from our defense, that’s what we are all about.”
The Long Ride
Berlin’s players arrived on a long bus trip before the game. That wait clearly paid off.
“Coach Cap was talking about it all week and we came out here with a chip and we most definitely came out here fired up,” Foster said. “Hour-thirty bus ride and we were locked in and dialed with that chip on our shoulder and we came here and balled out.”
Berlin coach John Capodice praised his team’s effort throughout.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for our program, our coaches and our players to go on the road as defending state champs and our kids came out and played tremendous,” Capodice said. “It was a team effort all around. We played as a unit and we had to play 48 minutes and we treated this like a playoff game.”
What Went Wrong For Wilton
Wilton answered Berlin’s first touchdown with a 51-yard pass from Colton Smith to Sawyer Smith. The two-point attempt failed. Wilton had chances in the second half, but could not find consistent offense.
“We are a young team, we played a really good team and they were better than us,” Wilton coach EJ DiNunzio said. “Overall, too sloppy and we need to clean things up.”

The win was a complete team effort for Berlin. Foster did his part, but the defense and the offense worked together all night.
