Gemini lets you make a call through its app so you skip waiting on hold

Gemini can now make calls for you on Pixel 11, handling menus and hold time while you watch a live transcript.

Google is letting Gemini call businesses for you on Pixel 11, and the feature is called an “early experiment.” It lets you delegate phone calls to the AI so you don’t have to sit through menus or hold time.

The setup involves letting Gemini make the call for you through the Gemini app instead of dialing directly. Gemini manages the entire process from start to finish: it dials into the business, navigates automated menus, sits through hold periods, and engages with the representative on the line. The caller receives a live transcript of the conversation and retains the ability to step in whenever they choose.

The Three Examples

Among the tasks Google points to as things Gemini can manage are making a reservation, finding out whether a product is in stock, and rescheduling an appointment. The search giant says you don’t need to begin the call yourself for Gemini to take care of it for you.

Comparing the Other Calls

Google announced a similar “Call for me” feature last year. That version had its AI call local businesses to check if they had a product you were looking for, but it didn’t let users take over those calls. Meta is also working on a similar automated phone call feature for its Muse AI agent, though those calls reportedly might be made by a human behind the scenes.

The Rollout Is Limited

The feature is rolling out starting today as an “early preview” for “Gemini paid subscribers enrolled in the Phone by Google Public Beta on Pixel 11 in the US.” That means most Pixel 11 owners won’t see it yet.

Key Facts

  • Feature: “Call for me”
  • Device: Pixel 11
  • Status: Early preview / early experiment
  • Availability: Gemini paid subscribers enrolled in the Phone by Google Public Beta on Pixel 11 in the US
  • Related feature: “Call for me” announced last year

The feature is live today. If you’re a subscriber, it’s worth trying. If you’re not, the headline will keep teasing you until you are.
