The Godzilla Minus Zero trailer is hinting that humans might create King Ghidorah themselves. That would reverse decades of storytelling, where Ghidorah has always come from outer space.
The trailer shows a shot of Kenji Noda (Hidetaka Yoshioka) aboard a ship, shouting the command “Commence Operation Narukami.” Narukami is one name for Raijin, a god who controls thunder, storms, and lightning in Shinto mythology. That suggests the operation is tied to Ghidorah.
The trailer also features Kanji Murakami (Min Tanaka) saying “fight fire with fire,” a phrase that implies pitting one monster against another. The scene includes a glass case with a piece of Godzilla’s dorsal fin, suggesting the military is using organic material from Godzilla’s body.
The Narukami Command
Kenji Noda’s command stands out because it names Ghidorah directly. The shot of gravity beams on the ground indicates Ghidorah will wreck civilization, but the trailer raises the question of whether he was sent against Godzilla first.
Operation Narukami
The name itself points to thunder and storms, which fit Ghidorah’s image. One reading is that the operation is meant to kill Ghidorah. Another is that it is a plan to use Ghidorah to defeat Godzilla.
Fight Fire With Fire
The phrase “fight fire with fire” comes from Kanji Murakami, described by Toho as a biologist. That strengthens the theory that humans will use science to create their own monster to eliminate Godzilla.
The idea is not new to Godzilla lore. In Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, the Japanese government turned Ghidorah’s remains into Mecha-King Ghidorah, a cyborg version deployed against Godzilla.
Godzilla’s DNA Sample
The dorsal fin sample appears at the same time as the “fight fire with fire” quote. That suggests the plan involves Godzilla’s radioactive DNA.
There are monsters in the Godzilla universe linked to his DNA, like Biollante and Orga. But Ghidorah and Godzilla are very different. The plan may involve:
- A dinosaur or reptile with physical traits similar to Ghidorah
- Infected with Godzilla’s DNA to cause a mutation
The Alien Origin Problem
Ghidorah’s alien origins go back to his debut in Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. His three Showa-era appearances kept that idea consistent. His Monsterverse appearance kept the alien angle but used it for a twist where Ghidorah defies the natural order to remake Earth.

A Plan Nobody Wants
If the characters consider genetically engineering a kaiju to fight Godzilla, it is a move that would take humanity into unknown territory. The mood of the trailer’s final line, “another moral boundary mankind should not cross,” matches that idea.
What Comes Next
The trailer has given fans plenty to talk about. Whether the plan succeeds, fails, or tears the world apart, the film has not yet shown it.
The evidence is there. The question is whether the humans can stop themselves.
