Guy Gardner joins Injustice 2 Mobile as Lanterns closes its run

A tale of a green light that hath changed its nature, wherein a warrior named Guy Gardner doth join a game of many lanterns.

HBO’s Lanterns TV series has wrapped, and its finale has changed what Green Lantern means in the DC Universe. The show’s ending brought together three ring-bearers under Gunn’s DCU, and now the mobile game Injustice 2 has decided to pick up where Lanterns left off.

Guy Gardner Joins Injustice 2 Mobile

The latest update to Injustice 2 Mobile adds Guy Gardner to its roster of Green Lanterns. The game already had John Stewart, Hal Jordan, and Emerald Green Lantern (Hal) on its list, and Guy rounds out the group as a Legendary Arcane hero. He wears his white, green, and black Justice Gang uniform and keeps his blonde bowl cut.

Guy Gardner’s power comes from his Combo Meter. When it stays high, he gains Green Lantern Energy. Then he uses his Power Ring to enter Green Lantern Form, where his Armor-Piercing Basic and Swipe Attacks hit harder, his Specials cost less and drain Power, and those benefits carry over to any teammates he plays with.

Lanterns’ Season Ends, But DCU Crossovers Live On

Lanterns’ first season is done. The finale resolved the fates of all three ring-bearers, and fans are waiting on word of a second season. In the meantime, Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart will appear in the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow.

That leaves a question about games. The slate of DC titles is thin beyond rumors and supposed leaks for a possible third entry in NetherRealm’s fighting game franchise. Injustice 3 looks like the only hope on the horizon, but Injustice 2 Mobile has not waited for it. The game has kept its support active, with new content updates arriving regularly.

What Guy Gardner Actually Does

Guy Gardner’s move is simple on paper but unusual for a Green Lantern. His main feature is tied to his Combo Meter staying high, which lets him build Green Lantern Energy. Once he hits Green Lantern Form, his attacks get stronger, his Specials cost less, and he shares those boosts with anyone else playing alongside him.

It is a design that rewards players who keep the action flowing without letting their combos fall apart. The game’s patch notes describe him as a great choice for solo raids, which suggests his kit is built for players working through the game on their own.

Clayface and the Next Crossover

The update also brings news about Clayface. Sadly, Clayface is not a playable character in Injustice 2 Mobile, so there is unlikely to be any crossover with the DCU’s Clayface movie, which releases later this month.

Instead, the next crossover will likely come from Man of Tomorrow. Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor is already in the game as a playable character, the only version of Lex in the roster. A future update could draw on the movie’s look, giving Lex a green-and-purple warsuit based on the film.

The State of DC Gaming

The broader picture is mixed. Lanterns is done, and the TV side of the DCU is settling into its next chapter. The games side is quieter. Injustice 3 remains the only real hope for a new DC game, though the timing is unclear.

Injustice 2 Mobile has stepped into the gap. It has become the place where Lanterns TV and DCU movie characters meet, even if the crossover is one-way. Guy Gardner joins the game, and John Stewart shows up in Man of Tomorrow, but the game itself has not announced a crossover with the Clayface movie.

Game Status
Lanterns TV Season one complete
Man of Tomorrow Coming this summer
Injustice 3 Rumored third entry
Injustice 2 Mobile Active support, regular updates

Why This Matters

Guy Gardner’s arrival is small on its own terms. He is a Green Lantern, and he joins a roster that already had Hal Jordan and John Stewart. But the context is the point. Lanterns ended its first season, and the DCU’s TV and game sides are moving in different directions.

Injustice 2 Mobile is the one holding things together. It has kept its updates coming, added Guy Gardner, and positioned itself as the home of DCU crossovers. The game’s developers have made a deliberate choice to keep the brand alive between Lanterns and the next big release.

That is a quiet kind of victory. Lanterns did its job. Now the game is doing the rest.

The genre has switched, and the mobile game is where it landed.
