Aya’s Descent
Aya is a severely tormented figure. She faces almost lethal bullying at school and physical abuse from her brother, Kaname. The show does not soften these facts. When a creepy website grants her magical powers, the gift comes with a price. Her classmates disappear after she fires a gun at them, killed by a train nearby. She wakes up with longer red hair and blood pouring from her eyes.
The Countdown Clock
The central mystery is a countdown clock on the website. Aya and her friend Tsuyuno Yatsumura do not know what it means. They fear it could signal something terrible. The show keeps this question open across its twelve episodes, building tension without ever fully explaining the threat.
Friends and Enemies
Tsuyuno becomes one of Aya’s new friends. She offers to help Aya escape “magical hunters” who kill magical girls and steal their wands. Other magical girls join the group, each with different powers. Together they try to uncover what the countdown means while hiding their abilities from the world around them.
The Cast
The voice cast delivers the show’s bleak tone with conviction. Yuko Ono voices Aya with a mix of fear and resolve. Himika Akaneya voices Tsuyuno with warmth and determination. The supporting cast, led by Yu Serizawa as Nijimi and Nobuhiko Okamoto as Kaname, rounds out the ensemble.
