Jack Black’s Black Sabbath tribute band, Jack Sabbath, reunited at Tom Morello’s Power to the People Festival in Columbia, Maryland, where the cover act was joined by actual Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler for “War Pigs.” The performance took place at Merriweather Post Pavilion, and the set featured a group of musicians whose parents are notable figures in rock music.
Black opened the three-song set with Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mr. Crowley” and Black Sabbath’s “The Wizard,” before Butler emerged to join the tribute band on “War Pigs.” The band features Tom Morello’s son Roman on guitar, Scott Ian’s son Revel on bass, teenaged Japanese drummer Yoyoka Soma, and keyboardist Hugo Weiss.

A Long Road to This Set
Jack Sabbath debuted in 2023 to perform “Mr. Crowley” at the 100th birthday party of Tom Morello’s mother Mary. Two years later, Black and his young band recreated Osbourne’s “Mr. Crowley” video in 2025 for Osbourne’s Back to the Beginning farewell concert.
Between those performances, Black delivered Osbourne’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame speech when the singer was inducted as a solo artist in 2024. In that speech, Black praised Ozzy’s legacy alongside Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and Tony Iommi.
“This motherfucker invented Heavy Metal, along with Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and the immortal Tony Iommi, the darkest, heaviest shit the world had ever heard,” Black said. “He invented a genre, then had the greatest second act come back in rock history.”
Butler’s Praise for Soma
Butler praised Soma in particular on social media after the performance, calling her “an amazing drummer.”
The Three Songs
The set ran three songs:
- “Mr. Crowley” — Ozzy Osbourne
- “The Wizard” — Black Sabbath
- “War Pigs” — Black Sabbath, with Butler joining on bass
A Tribute Worth Watching
Jack Sabbath has built its identity around recreating classic Black Sabbath material, and this performance drew directly on that history. The 2025 recreation of Osbourne’s “Mr. Crowley” video showed the band’s approach to the original material.
The inclusion of Butler for “War Pigs” turned a tribute set into a proper moment of respect. It also gave the performance added significance, with Butler joining the tribute band on stage.
The Teenage Drummer
Yoyoka Soma, the teenaged Japanese drummer, drew specific praise from Butler after the performance. That recognition speaks to the quality of the band’s young members.
The set brought together a cast of musicians whose parents are notable figures in rock music. Roman Morello is Tom Morello’s son, Revel Ian is Scott Ian’s son, and Soma holds down the drums while Hugo Weiss handles keys.
What Comes Next for Jack Sabbath
The reunion performance at Power to the People Festival was a one-off event. Whether Jack Sabbath continues performing beyond this festival is unclear.
