Marvel is finally making its digital comics one stop. The official Marvel Comics app launches November 16, and it brings together over 35,000 stories from the publisher’s history, plus 20th Century Studios, Star Wars, and Walt Disney Pictures IP.
The app is available on mobile and PC, and WEBTOON built and runs it. Readers can flip through comics page by page or scroll vertically, and new personalization tools let you search, save favorite creators, and build a pull list for upcoming releases.
Midnight Universe Arrives October 7
The app launch follows a busy October for Marvel. On October 7, the Midnight Universe horror imprint starts with new issues of Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. Over one million copies have already been ordered, and second printings are set for the end of the month.
WEBTOON Joins Marvel at NYCC
Marvel returns to New York Comic Con, which kicks off later this week on October 8 and runs through the weekend. The That Time Deadpool Fell into a WEBTOON panel on October 9 will be moderated by Collider‘s Maggie Lovitt, previewing a joint story launching next year.
WEBTOON already brought several Marvel Classics to the platform in episodic form. The list includes:
- Amazing Spider-Man (2022)
- Avengers (2012)
- Alien: Bloodlines
The deal announced last year gives WEBTOON access to Disney’s library of characters.
What the App Actually Does
The app puts everything in one place. A cover-scroll interface lets you browse hundreds of titles, while character and creator pages track their latest releases.
Newer titles can be added to your pull list in advance.
The Horror Imprint
Midnight Universe is the first major test of Marvel’s horror push. The imprint gives superstar writers and artists a chance to reimagine classic characters through a macabre lens.
Why This Matters
The app brings the entire catalog together. It consolidates a massive collection of comics, movies, and shows in one place.
The pull list feature is particularly useful. Readers can add upcoming issues to their list ahead of time.
The Future Together
Both companies are showing what they can do together. The NYCC presence and the Deadpool preview panel signal a longer partnership.
The app itself is the clearest evidence yet. WEBTOON’s role as builder and operator means the vertical scrolling and personalized reading experience are baked into the product.
