Naughty Dog has confirmed that its upcoming sci-fi game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will not be shown off at this year’s The Game Awards. The studio says fans will have to wait until 2027 for a full reveal.
Studio head Neil Druckmann wrote on the Naughty Dog website that the team is still deep in development on what he calls “Naughty Dog’s most ambitious game yet.” He promised a proper unveiling of the game’s “wild sci-fi adventure,” but warned that the current build is not ready to show yet.
“We need to cook for just a little bit longer,” Druckmann wrote.
What We Know About Intergalactic
The game was revealed at The Game Awards 2022. Since then, Naughty Dog has released very few details. The setting is 2,000 years in the future, in an alternate universe where space travel became common in the 1980s.
The story follows a bounty hunter named Jordan who gets trapped on an alien planet while chasing a criminal syndicate. As he waits out his situation, he starts to uncover the syndicate’s history and secrets.
Troy Baker’s Big Claim
Last of Us actor Troy Baker, who voices the main character Jordan, has weighed in on the game. In a video posted on Play4Index, Baker told an audience that the game is going to “blow” their minds and that the studio is once again pushing past its creative limits.
“You are not ready,” he said.
Why Naughty Dog Is Quiet Now
Druckmann’s message is simple: the team is not finished, and showing anything now would be premature. He set clear expectations about what fans should expect over the coming months.
“So we want to set expectations: we’re going to be quiet for the rest of this year,” he wrote. “In 2027, that changes. We’ll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.”
The studio is facing sky-high expectations after going through an entire console generation without releasing a new game. Druckmann acknowledged the wait, but insisted the team is working hard to deliver something worthy of patience.
“We know it’s been a long time since we’ve had much to share with you,” he wrote. “We don’t take your continued support for granted. We’re working incredibly hard to make something worthy of your patience.”
