Today, Variety reported that Amazon has renewed Neagley, the Reacher spinoff, for a second season.

Prime Video launched the series on Sept. 16, the same day as the Reacher Season 4 finale. The streamer reports the show attracted 40 million viewers within its first 13 days of availability, though Amazon has not explained how it arrives at that figure.

The Number Four Debut

Prime Video says Neagley Season 1 ranks fourth among all original series debuts in Prime Video history when it comes to views. The show has drawn 52% of its audience from outside the United States.

Days after Reacher was reportedly renewed for Season 6, with Season 5 still in production, the franchise has marked another round of renewal.

Maria Sten Leads the Cast

Frances Neagley, Jack Reacher’s former Army protege, is played by Maria Sten in the role she is reprising. She now works as a private investigator. The debut season’s logline states, “When [Neagley] learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell-bent on justice.”

“Audiences around the world have embraced Frances Neagley as a force all her own,” said Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios. “Maria Sten delivers a commanding, layered performance that drives every episode, and Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton have built a world that is both thrilling and compelling. We are excited to continue this story and explore what’s next for Neagley with our partners at Paramount Television Studios.”

The Supporting Cast

The Season 1 cast features Sten alongside Greyston Holt, Adeline Rudolph, Jasper Jones, Matthew Del Negro, and Damon Herriman. Alan Ritchson, known for Reacher, took on a guest role.

From Page to Screen

The series draws its lead from a character who first appeared in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books. Nock Santora and Nicholas Wootton take on multiple roles: they write for the show, serve as executive producers, and run it together as co-showrunners.

Don Granger, Sam Hill, Adam Higgs, and Lisa Kussner all serve as executive producers alongside the child. Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios are the producers behind the project. Carolyn Harris, Kenny Madrid, and Niko Fernandez are the overseers for Paramount Television Studios.

Friedlander’s statement points to three factors behind the renewal: Sten’s performance, the creative team’s world-building, and the international audience response.

A spinoff reaching 40 million viewers within its first 13 days is a significant milestone for the show.
