MP1st reports that Naughty Dog is working on a new Uncharted game, and it is not a remake. The game brings back Nathan Drake in some form, though he may not be the lead. The project is being directed by Shaun Escayag, who previously helmed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Noted insider NateTheHate confirmed Eurogamer‘s report on Resetera, saying Escayag is indeed working on a new Uncharted game. Escayag left Naughty Dog to become creative director of Marvel’s Avengers at Crystal Dynamics, but later returned to the studio to work on an unnamed project that now appears to be this Uncharted game.
Drake Returns
The game is described as a fresh entry rather than a remake of any existing title. The report suggests Drake’s return is in some form, which leaves room for him to appear without carrying the whole story.
The report also points to a possible path for the story. Assuming the game continues the narrative from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, one possibility is that Drake and Elena Fisher’s daughter, Cassie, could lead the next adventure. Cassie was introduced at the end of Uncharted 4, and her involvement is one possible way the story may go.
The Timeline
Naughty Dog will reportedly move to developing the new Uncharted game after shipping Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, its current main project. Intergalactic does not yet have a release target, but Naughty Dog recently said it will be properly revealed in 2027, suggesting it may be released that same year.
| Project | Status |
|---|---|
| Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet | Current main project, no release target, revealed in 2027 |
| New Uncharted game | Early development, no release window |
Given that timeline, the new Uncharted game is unlikely to arrive for quite some time.
The last Uncharted game beyond a re-release was 2017’s The Lost Legacy, itself an Uncharted 4 spin-off starring some of the same characters. Beyond that, the franchise has been quiet.
What We Know So Far
- The game is a new entry, not a remake.
- Drake returns in some form, possibly not as the lead.
- Escayag directs, with NateTheHate confirming the report.
- Cassie could potentially lead the story.
- Development begins after Intergalactic ships.
The report is notable for what it confirms: Naughty Dog is still making Uncharted, and Drake is coming back. Whether that means a full return or a supporting role remains unclear. Either way, it is good news for fans who have waited years for the next chapter.
