Vision is back, and he wants his family back. Marvel Studios has released a trailer for VisionQuest, the final chapter in the trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along. The film arrives October 14.
The setup is familiar by now, but it bears repeating. Thanos killed Vision (Paul Bettany) in Avengers: Infinity War. To cope with the loss, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) created a pocket reality called Westview using chaos magic. In that town, she lived out her sitcom-family dreams with Vision and twin sons named Tommy and Billy, whom she conjured with her power.
Outside the hex, the intelligence agency S.W.O.R.D. recovered the real Vision’s corpse and rebuilt him as White Vision. His job was to destroy Vision and Wanda. The two Visions faced off in the WandaVision finale, and Vision transferred his memories into White Vision before the latter flew off into the unknown.
When Wanda dismantled the hex, those fake versions of Vision, Tommy, and Billy disappeared—or did they?
The Big Question in the Trailer
The new footage centers on that mystery. Vision wrestles with his identity and purpose. The cruel and callous Ultron (James Spader) quips, “That dead witch really did a number on you.” That line has fans asking: did Ultron confirm that Wanda died at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
It’s far too soon to tell. A trailer gives little context for such a bold statement, and the question hangs over the footage without an answer.
Searching for Thomas Shepherd
When Vision isn’t squabbling with Ultron, he’s trying to figure out whether a young man who goes by Thomas Shepherd (Ruaridh Mollica) is actually his son. The stakes couldn’t be higher. Vision prepares for a fight he “likely won’t win.”
The trailer suggests Vision is chasing a lead, not closing a case. Whether Thomas Shepherd is the missing Billy or a stranger with a similar name remains unknown.
What the Trailer Shows
The footage leans on three threads:
- Vision’s existential crisis, as he grapples with what he is and why he exists.
- The tension between Vision and Ultron, whose cruelty cuts through the hero’s calm.
- The search for Thomas Shepherd, which could resolve the mystery of the vanished sons.
Each thread feeds the next. Vision’s uncertainty about himself drives his need to find answers, and Ultron’s taunts keep the pressure on. The result is a trailer that feels less like a marketing pitch and more like a character study with stakes.
The Cast and Their History
The VisionQuest cast brings together actors from across the MCU timeline. Paul Bettany has played Vision since Avengers: Age of Ultron, a long tenure with the franchise. Elizabeth Olsen has carried Wanda’s story from Captain America: Civil War through Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
James Spader returns as Ultron, the artificial intelligence turned synthezoid who has haunted the MCU since his debut. Ruaridh Mollica joins the cast as Thomas Shepherd, the young man Vision believes might hold the key to finding his sons.
Release Date and Where to Watch
VisionQuest debuts on October 14. The film concludes the trilogy that began with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024.

What We Know So Far
The trailer confirms several things:
- Vision is still alive and still searching.
- Ultron is still cruel and still talking.
- Thomas Shepherd is the lead in Vision’s investigation.
- The fight Vision prepares for is likely fatal.
What the trailer doesn’t confirm is whether Wanda is dead. That question remains open, and the film’s release will settle it.
The Verdict on the Trailer
The VisionQuest trailer delivers on promise. It shows a father searching for his vanished sons, a resurrected corpse haunted by its past, and an old enemy mocking the woman who made him. That is the stuff of good drama.
The questions raised are genuine. Did Wanda die? Is Thomas Shepherd the real Billy? Will Vision survive the fight he expects to lose? These are the hooks that pull viewers in.
The trailer’s strength is restraint. It doesn’t spoil the answers; it makes you want them. That is a rare skill in a marketing tool.
VisionQuest is the conclusion of a trilogy that has spent years building toward this moment. The trailer suggests the payoff is worth waiting for.
