The Setup
Son Hae-yeong is not looking for love. She is looking for status. Kim Ji-uk is not looking for a wife. He is looking for a way out of a quiet life. The two meet in a convenience store, where Kim Ji-uk works and Son Hae-yeong buys her coffee. Their relationship begins as transactional and stays that way until it stops being able to.
Shin Min-a plays Son Hae-yeong with a sharp edge and a soft center. Kim Young-dae plays Kim Ji-uk with warmth that builds slowly. Together they sell the central lie as something close to truth.
The Supporting Cast
Lee Sang-yi plays Bok Gyu-hyeon, who adds depth to the world around the main couple. Han Ji-hyeon plays Nam Ja-yeon, giving the show a grounded human touch. Joo Min-kyung plays Cha Hee-Sung, and Jeon Hye-won plays Kwon Yi-rin, both adding texture to the ensemble. Lee You-jin plays Yeo Ha-joon, Go Wook plays An Woo-jae, Yoon Seo-hyun plays Jang Se-jin, and Roh Ju-eun plays Moon Yu-na. Cha Seung-hwan rounds out the cast.
What Works
The show balances comedy and drama well. The fake marriage setup allows for jokes about paperwork and public appearances, but the show does not forget why the arrangement started. The romance grows organically, which is rare for a plot this thin. Each episode moves the story forward without wasting time on filler.
The supporting cast is used well. Bok Gyu-hyeon, Nam Ja-yeon, Cha Hee-Sung, Kwon Yi-rin, Yeo Ha-joon, An Woo-jae, Jang Se-jin, Moon Yu-na, and Cha Seung-hwan each get moments to shine, and their presence keeps the world around Son Hae-yeong and Kim Ji-uk feeling lived-in.
What Needs Work
Some viewers may find the middle stretch slow. The pacing eases after the initial setup, and a few episodes feel like padding. The show also leans heavily on its leads carrying the weight, which means lesser characters sometimes get short shrift.
