A rock singer stands on a dark stage bathed in spotlight light.

Noah Weiland has joined the Los Angeles rock band Zephyring as their new singer, taking over for the band’s previous frontman Taz, who left in August. The move brings together a group of musicians whose families shaped the history of rock music, and it arrives alongside Noah’s own solo record, CRASHOUT JUNKIE, which is out today.

The Band Behind Noah

Zephyring already had a solid foundation before Noah joined. Their two albums were produced by Steve Albini, the Chicago engineer behind Nevermind and PJ Harvey’s Dry. Both records came out on Grunge Pop Records. The band’s lineup includes lead guitarist Frank Salazar, rhythm guitarist Pyn Doll (who also plays with Barb Wire Dolls), bassist Gabe Maska, and drummer Kyle Brian.

Noah’s own résumé is notable in its own right. He previously fronted Suspect208, a short-lived band that included Slash’s son London Hudson and Robert Trujillo’s son Tye Trujillo.

From Taz to Noah

Taz led Zephyring until August, when he parted ways with the band. Noah stepped in immediately after that split. The transition means Zephyring now has a new voice for their live shows, though the band’s core instrumental identity remains intact.

Noah’s video announcement for the change is available to watch. The video mentions his new solo album, CRASHOUT JUNKIE, which is out today.

The Family Connection

Noah Weiland is the son of Scott Weiland, the late frontman of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. His father’s death has been a defining presence throughout his career. Last year, Noah played a show featuring Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver songs as a tribute to his late father on the 10th anniversary of Scott Weiland’s passing.

The Solo Record

CRASHOUT JUNKIE is out today. For fans of Noah’s previous work, it represents a step forward into his own material.

Live Debut at the Viper Room

Noah’s first show with Zephyring will be December 4th at Los Angeles’ Viper Room. The band will be performing there for the first time with their new singer in place.

The timing of the announcement puts Noah in a position to promote both the album and the band simultaneously. Fans who buy CRASHOUT JUNKIE today can then see Noah perform live in a few weeks.

What This Means for Zephyring

Zephyring had already established themselves with two Albini-produced albums before Noah joined. His arrival adds a layer of family history to a band that was already well-positioned musically.

The band’s pedigree is strong across the board. Albini’s production credits include Nevermind and PJ Harvey’s Dry. Grunge Pop Records released the albums. And the instrumental lineup features players with experience in other bands.

A Young Man Stepping Into the Spotlight

Noah Weiland is stepping into a spotlight that has been dimmed by tragedy. His father’s death cast a shadow over his early career, and he has spent years performing his father’s songs in tribute settings.

Now, with Zephyring, he has a platform of his own. The band’s history is rich, and his own solo record gives him something new to play. The Viper Room show will be a test of how audiences respond to the new direction.

The road ahead is clear. Noah has an album out today, a live debut in a few weeks, and a band with a strong musical foundation behind him. The question is whether he can carry the weight of expectation and make his own mark.

  1. CRASHOUT JUNKIE is released today.
  2. Noah debuts with Zephyring at the Viper Room on December 4th.
  3. The band continues to tour and build on their two Albini-produced albums.

The pieces are in place. Noah Weiland has inherited a legacy, and he is now building his own.
