The market is watching Robinhood closely after the company’s Houston summit was filled with more new products than it has launched in years. The brokerage rolled out crypto perpetual futures, weekend stock trading, AI agents that trade for you, earnings contracts, and a social trading app all at once. The company is placing a large bet on active traders who want to move faster across stocks, crypto, and prediction markets.

Perps Come to the U.S.

The contracts for bitcoin and ether will let traders borrow up to 10 times their own money, while other assets begin with just 3 times leverage. Trading happens through Robinhood Derivatives and Bitstamp, rather than Lighter. A person who leads the firm’s U.S. futures business explained that customers want leverage, though Robinhood decided to start more cautiously with smaller coins.

Weekend Trading Is Official

Robinhood introduced round-the-clock trading in 2023, though weekend trading was still absent. A number of stocks and ETFs will now trade 24-7 on Saturdays and Sundays via an alternative venue called Bruce ATS, closing the final gap between stocks and crypto.

AI Agents Are Real

The app lets users build an agent, select a model from either OpenAI or Anthropic, and assign it its own trading account for researching markets and placing trades. A feature named Loops enables users to establish standing instructions, allowing the agent to act on its own once certain conditions are met. Over 150,000 agent accounts have already been created since Robinhood opened its systems to outside AI earlier this year.

Earnings Contracts Through CBOE

Cboe offers trading on whether a company reaches a certain figure, such as revenue, earnings per share, or for Apple, iPhone sales.

The Everything App

Robinhood’s product VP described the destination as one account where you sell stocks, buy crypto, sell crypto, and trade prediction markets without thinking about which one you’re in. It’s the definition of the “everything app.”

What the Market Is Doing

Most major cryptos are trading little changed. BTC has dropped 0.4% to sit at $83.9k, and ETH has declined 1%, resting at $2,700. ZEC is the outlier, rising 1% to land at $1,427. Bitcoin has gained 7.33% so far this September, which puts it narrowly ahead of 2024’s 7.29% for the best September on record. To claim that title, BTC would need to finish above roughly $83,600.

Blockchain.com is targeting a $500 million IPO this year at a valuation of up to $6 billion, after filing confidentially with the SEC earlier in the year. Kalshi is in advanced talks to raise about $1 billion at a valuation near $40 billion, with Sequoia and Wellington in talks to lead and Tiger Global and Dragoneer possibly joining.

Tuesday saw Pump take the lead among onchain protocols for revenue once more, with $2.26M, while Hyperliquid followed behind at $1.82M and Collector Crypt landed at $760k. Stonk bounced back with $1.16M in revenue, driven by SI surging to $50M.

The Verdict on Houston

HOOD Summit brought a heavy round of announcements from Robinhood, and the quantity alone stands out. The company is placing its chips on active traders wanting more leverage, weekend trading, and AI that places trades without human intervention. It is still unknown whether any of these offerings will deliver the breakout success Robinhood is seeking. For now, the market waits to see how they land.
