Ryan Murphy has written a Glee reboot script, and he says the original cast is “very enthusiastic” about the idea. The Fox musical comedy ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2015, and now its creators are circling back. Murphy, a two-time Golden Globe winner, told Entertainment Tonight that he “just finished” the script an hour before the interview. He said he, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan — the trio who wrote the first two seasons — have put something together.
Murphy’s Statement
“Well, funny you ask, cause I just finished the script an hour ago,” Murphy said. “So, we have a script. Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something.”
He added that he has been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. “It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”
The Script Is Done
Murphy said nobody has read the script yet. “Nobody’s read it, so I don’t know, we’ll see,” he said. He also vowed to himself that he wanted to write a couple of them to see what people think, particularly the cast, because “we were very close when we were making it.”
The Cast Reaction
The enthusiasm is widespread across the group he has contacted. Murphy described the conversations as “very sweet,” with the actors asking questions and showing support for the project. He did not specify which cast members he has spoken to beyond the figure of around 10, nor did he describe the nature of their questions.
What Happened Before
This is not the first time Murphy has hinted at a Glee revival. Two months ago, he told People that the show is coming back around.
“That show is interesting because it’s come back around. So many young people now watch it. And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show,'” he said.
