Best Medicine, FOX’s medical dramedy, has returned, and it brought a mermaid, Andrea Martin, and a major character confession with it. After nearly six months off the air, the show came back for its Season 2 premiere on September 20. A recent set visit to the series’ sound stages in the Hudson Valley region revealed plenty of secrets the audience hasn’ was also seen.
The visit included in-person interviews with cast members Josh Charles, Jason Veasey, Stephen Spinella, Cree, and Didi Conn, plus EP Rodney Ferrell (Stick) and showrunner/EP Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City, Divorce, Sweetbitter). The Fridge Awards Have Been Won
One reporter admitted that peeking in a fridge is the first thing they do on a set visit. Aunt Sarah took the award for Best Fridge Interior of Best Medicine Season 2, with a bunch of apples and two bottles of wine inside. Martin’s fridge revealed a love of eggs, fruit, and olives.
The Best Fridge Exterior award has been given to Greg and George. Pictures of the performers and personal items hang on the fridge in The Salty Breeze’s kitchen, on the walls within the restaurant, and across every set visited. The care put into these details stands out. Cabinets and junk drawers are full. Graduate certificates are displayed. Reading glasses are scattered through Aunt Sarah’s house, with a pile of handwritten mail waiting by her door.
The Salty Breeze guest room and a beauty salon were both under construction as new locations for Season 2, with the aim of raising Best Medicine‘s set design to a higher level.
Martin and Louisa Are Still Endgame
Season 2 opens with Martin and Eden still together, and Louisa will have “sparks” with an upcoming guest star. But Charles told Decider that Martin has feelings for Louisa that he’s not always fully conscious of all the time, or he’s trying not to be.
The EPs agree. “No matter what happens, no matter if she gets another love interest, I don’t think any of us have to worry that there’s still something there,” Ferrell told Decider. “She’s patient with him, and listens, and doesn’t judge him. She’s actually okay with who he is. And I think that’s the kind of person he needs. Eden is not patient with him. Eden wants results. So I think Louisa services something for him that he actually needs.”
Tuccillo made a remark that included “There might be another love triangle that Louisa is involved with, because she can’t just be sitting around pining for Martin for a whole other season. But I think Louisa is the love of his life, and everything that he does besides that is just not right. He’s so damaged, it’s going to be a hard road to get them together. But they really are meant to be together.”.
Didi Conn Wants a Love Interest
After Geneva’s husband cheated on her with her sister, Didi Conn thinks it’s high time she finds love again. “Tell the writers!” she urged during the Season 2 chat.
Decider spoke with Tuccillo, who said that at the start of the season, Aunt Sarah’s attention centers on Martin, though “hopefully the last half she’s going to realize that it’s time for her to start thinking about love as well.”
Conn is perfectly content sharing scenes with her “long-lost sister” Annie Potts. “Annie and I have known each other kind of parallel, by living in LA, having similar friends, hearing about each other’s work… We belong to a mutual admiration society, my Annie and me.”
The Salty Breeze Menu Is Expensive
The Salty Breeze has confirmed its offerings, and they run from everyday small plates and salads all the way up to a $250 per person uni tasting menu. The restaurant is well known for its famous lobster rolls, and these dishes represent some of Port Wenn’s best eats.
The Cast Isn’t Begging for Karaoke Scenes
Several new singers step up to take the mic, while Josh Segarra keeps crushing karaoke in Season 2, but not every member of the Best Medicine cast shares their love for singing in public.
“Cree’s karaoke song, if she must — which she tries to avoid generally — is probably ‘Bust a Move,’ ” Cree told Decider. “Elaine’s would be ‘You Outta Know’ by Alanis Morissette. I think she would love the angst in that, the drama of it.”
