The synopsis is simple. Ten people get the chance to go back in time by one year. They are told it is a fresh start. What they find instead is a version of their past that does not quite match the one they left behind. The other nine characters are less fully realized. The show is so busy establishing the mystery that it cannot spend equal time with all of them. Some feel like names on a list, while others, like Nam Ji-hyun’s Shin Ga Hyun, get moments that land. The ensemble is large, and the show cannot hold every thread at once.
The Middle Stretch
The pacing is deliberate, sometimes too deliberate, and the middle stretch drags as the show repeats its setup again and again. The writing is competent without being outstanding. The direction is solid, though it relies heavily on close-ups and wide shots to build tension. The performances are mostly steady, with Lee Jun-hyuk doing the heavy lifting.
The show is a story about repetition, and it practices what it preaches in a clever way. Some viewers will find that repetition rewarding. Others will find it exhausting.
