Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo return as Ahsoka and Sabine, respectively, as Shin (Ivanna Sakhno) pursues them on Peridea. Rory McCann replaces the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, who plays a part in this storyline.
The second storyline follows Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) as he uses his forces to attack a fledgling New Republic. Returning cast members include Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla. The season will also touch on the arrival of the Mortis Gods, which promises to be a challenging adaptation for Lucasfilm.
The Original Film Returns to Cinemas
On Feb. 19, 2027, Lucasfilm is showing Star Wars: A New Hope in theaters “everywhere,” including 70 mm IMAX showings. The catch: it is the original 1977 version, with no Greedo shooting first, no CGI Jabba the Hutt, and no digital Dewbacks. Fans who have only seen the revised editions will finally get to see what the film looked like when it first hit screens.
Shawn Levy Makes His Debut
Star Wars: Starfighter hits theaters on May 28, 2027. Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool & Wolverine and Free Guy, directs. The sequel-trilogy-set film stars Ryan Gosling alongside Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Amy Adams, Flynn Gray, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings. Top Gun: Maverick director of photography Claudio Miranda is also on board.
Levy expressed excitement about the project when Kathy Kennedy reached out. He described it as “a dream come true, creatively and personally,” adding that Star Wars shaped his sense of what story can do and how characters and cinematic moments live with audiences forever. He called joining the galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off “the thrill of a lifetime.”
Maul Returns for Another Season
Maul: Shadow Lord season 2 has not yet been dated. The animated series brings back Darth Maul after a successful 10-episode first season.
Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey Movie Is in Limbo
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s planned Star Wars film takes place 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker and follows Rey Skywalker (Daisy Ridley) as she tries to rebuild the Jedi Order. The project was initially considered “Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars movie,” but Steven Knight took over as screenwriter in March 2023. Knight ultimately left the film.
George Nolfi joined as a writer in January 2025, with confirmation later. At Star Wars Celebration 2025, Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni confirmed the Rey movie, plus films from James Mangold, Taika Waititi, and Simon Kinberg, were still in development. But after Kennedy’s departure as Lucasfilm president, the future of the Rey movie looks unclear.
In an interview with Deadline, Kennedy did not mention the planned Rey movie as a future project at Lucasfilm. Many other Star Wars movie announcements may ultimately go nowhere.
