Streamers on the Runway: Kai Cenat Brings His Apparel Brand to New York Fashion Week

Kai Cenat debuts his brand Vivet at NYFW, mixing gaming friends with fashion royalty like Alton Mason.

By mitch·4 min read
A streamer stands confidently on a runway at New York Fashion Week amid designer models.

The man who made his name speaking about money from his bedroom in the Bronx has brought his friends to a runway in front of a crowd that includes Lauryn Hill and Alton Mason, the first Black male model to walk for Chanel. Kai Cenat’s apparel brand, Vivet, debuted at New York Fashion Week, and the launch event packed the catwalk with personalities from both sides of the fashion and gaming worlds.

Collection I was released at an NYFW event, and its name comes from two separate inspirations. The first half, Vivet, takes its title from the Latin verb meaning “to live,”. The second half, Cenat, has spent over a year developing the brand, traveling to Italy to work with master tailors and seeking advice from designers in Atlanta.

From Bedroom to Runway

The Bronx native swapped his regular routine for a Big Apple runway. During New York Fashion Week, he came back to his hometown to show off the first items from his clothing line Vivet. More than a year went into building the brand, with Cenat crossing the ocean to work with skilled Italian tailors and seeking advice from designers in Atlanta.

Cenat’s Collection I made its debut at the event as part of the Vivet drop, born from his own deep exploration of fashion. Across the range, an overarching cyberpunk style carries the line, joined by pieces such as a “streaming backpack” that recall his origins. The cost of these items, mostly sitting in three-digit territory, keeps reminding buyers that Vivet has luxury built into its very nature.

Vivet’s launch event was just as much of a spectacle as the pieces on display. The personnel walking the runway included some of Cenat’s longtime streaming chums, among them Ray Asianboy, BruceDropEmOff, and fellow AMP member Duke Dennis. They were joined by fashion industry royalty like Alton Mason, the first Black male model to walk for Chanel.

PlaqueBoyMax was among those who attended the event, alongside neo-soul icon Ms. Lauryn Hill.

A Brand Built on Fame

Cenat’s pop culture journey now reaches Vivet, a point where creators are no longer simply guests at fashion shows. In the past, beauty and fashion vloggers gained attention by appearing at shows put on by legacy brands. Later, platforms such as YouTube and startups like College Fashionista created dedicated spaces for creators to be present at the most significant events on the fashion calendar.

Today, creators are rolling out their own clothing capsules and apparel lines, which are then showcased at industry events like Theorist’s Creators in Fashion. Cenat, whose recent return to Streamer University reminded the world about his star power, is the perfect person to bring the creator economy’, where they serve as a bridge from the creator sphere to the broader fashion world.

Cenat got his chance to show what he has been building at NYFW. The name Vivet is meant to capture his desire to live fully and without reservation. Strutting down the runway in front of a high-profile crowd let him demonstrate what that kind of bold self-expression actually looks like.

What We Make of It

Vivet is a manifestation of Cenat’s self-assurance, and it brings together his bold personality with the fine details of high fashion. His first appearance at NYFW made a strong impression, and the launch party brought together Lauryn Hill and Alton Mason.

That the launch event drew in Lauryn Hill and Alton Mason demonstrates the cultural pull he now commands. It also shows how far creators have come since the days when they walked in shows hosted by legacy brands, moving instead to launching their own lines and putting them on display at industry events.

The world was reminded of Cenat’s star power when he recently returned to Streamer University, and Vivet offers the ideal platform to bring that same influence into the fashion world.
