Hailee Steinfeld has stepped onto NBC’s Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk up her next big job. She voices the lead character Billie Doe in the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Hexed, and she was there to promote it. The actor and pop star told Fallon all about how she’s living the dream. Their conversation included a round of the “Don’t Say the Same Thing Challenge,” a game where Steinfeld and Fallon choose a category together and name something from it at the same time, without saying the same thing.
“It’s such a dream come true,” Steinfeld says of Hexed, due out this Thanksgiving. “You jump at the opportunity to be a part of a Disney animated original. I started this project when I was pregnant, and finished it after my baby was born. So it was really such an amazing sort of like transformative time in my life.”
A Year Of Firsts
Harper Haize came into the world in April, bringing a baby girl into Steinfeld’s life. Almost a year before that happened, she tied the knot with Josh Allen, the quarterback for the NFL’s Buffalo Bills. Right now, the Bills are off to a perfect start to their regular season, standing at 3-0.
She also starred in Ryan Coogler’s 2025 vampire flick Sinners, contributing the track “Dangerous.” The film entered the history books earlier this year with 16 Academy Award nominations, an all-time record, and went on to win four golden statuettes.
Billie Doe And The Magic Within
Steinfeld explains that Billie is a “rebellious, unconventional teen” who learns a hidden truth about herself: she is a witch with magical powers. The fact should not be kept a secret.
“It’s a magical, magical coming of age story and a story of self-discovery and learning to use that magic within you,” Steinfeld continues, “and that power within you, for good.”
What She Missed
Steinfeld spoke to Fallon about the demanding night shoots on Sinners, and she praised the film’s director Coogler. She said she missed the Academy Award, though she watched it from home with a “bowl of popcorn and big belly.”
Steinfeld is not confirming anything about returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe via the upcoming release Avengers: Doomsday. She isn’t saying a word about it. Her previous MCU appearances include Marvel’s Hawkeye on Disney+, along with her roles as “Spider-Gwen” in both Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. “Time will tell,”
Steinfeld first made her mark as an actor with a starring role in the Coen Brothers’ True Grit, which earned her a nod from the Academy for best supporting actress. She has also carved out a career as a recording artist, with five songs landing on the Billboard Hot 100, including her debut single “Love Myself”, which hit No. 30 on the chart in 2015. That same year, her Haiz EP appeared on the Billboard 200.
