TikToker Warns Against Great Clips After Stylist Cuts Off Four Inches of Her Hair

A TikToker warns against Great Clips after a stylist cut four inches off her hair without parts, calling it 'haircut roulette'.

A woman sits in a salon chair while her hair falls to the floor during an unexpected haircut.

A user on TikTok has sounded the alarm over her visit to Great Clips, where she claims she requested merely a trim but ended up losing far more hair than she had anticipated.

TikTok user @ivymarieplay recently shared her experience on the platform, describing a visit to Great Clips as “haircut roulette” because, in her words, you never know what you’re going to get. The video has garnered more than 3.8 million likes and 3,200 comments.

“I walk in and I’m like, ‘Hey, just a little trim. Just get the dead ends off.’ Lady’s like, ‘Got it,'” she says in the video. The stylist then asked whether she wanted her hair washed before or after it was cut. “And I was like, uh, this is gonna be fun. It’s like, ‘How about we wash it first?'” @ivymarieplay recalls.

The TikToker says that once she came back to the chair, things did not go as expected.

“She takes me over to the bowl, washes my hair, brings me back over, and before she gets out a brush to brush it or a comb to part my hair, she just grabs the scissors out and starts cutting,” she says. “No parts, no nothing. Just starts cutting.” @ivymarieplay says she watched her hair fall to the floor as the stylist continued cutting. “And I was like, wow, we’re making a wig for somebody else today,” she jokes.

The TikToker says she requested a trim, yet she presents a side-by-side comparison of her hair before and after the appointment. She estimates about four inches came off.

She worried about how much hair had been cut away, but the final look of the haircut turned out to be less extreme than she had anticipated.

@ivymarieplay did issue a note to viewers who feel deeply about their hair.

“Don’t go to Great Clips,” she says. “If you have an emotional attachment to your hair ’cause there’s a good chance you won’t have it when you leave.”

Viewers Share Their Own Great Clips Stories

The video encouraged viewers to relate their personal responses and stories tied to the salon.

One person made a joke about it, saying “I’m curious what dose and what meds are you on? Cause you’re very calm…”.

Photos and stories of bad haircuts were also shared by other women, with some saying their cuts came out uneven and others pointing to bangs that sat lopsided.

“I’ll be heading to my nearest Great Clips the next time I’m in the mood to feel something,” another commenter joked.

Not all commenters placed the blame directly on Great Clips for the experiences they described.

A stylist with 27 years of experience, who posted under their professional identity, said that the person doing your hair counts for more than the salon’s name or its prices.

“Hairstylist of 27yrs. Repeat after me people IT DOESNT MATTER THE NAME ON THE DOOR OR THE PRICE. ITS THE PERSON STANDING BEHIND THE CHAIR”

A reader’s remark presented an alternate view on the conversation, arguing that a patron’s experience may hinge upon the particular stylist they visit rather than the salon’s brand standing alone.

The Daily Dot cannot confirm the haircut shown in the video, which relies entirely on TikTok user @ivymarieplay’s own account of her time at Great Clips.

In short, if your hair matters to you, give it a rest. Great Clips is not the place for experimentation when you are emotionally attached to your locks.
