The Tokyo Game Show has canceled its final day, and organizers are refunding Monday’s tickets. The reason is simple: Typhoon Dujuan is barreling through Japan, and the winds and rain expected Monday afternoon were too much to risk.
The event was supposed to be the first five-day run in TGS’ 30-year history. “Due to the approach of Typhoon No. 25, strong winds and rain are expected to intensify in the afternoon and beyond, and disruptions to transportation are also a concern,” event organizers wrote on Twitter. “Therefore, prioritizing the safety of all attendees, exhibitors, and related parties, as well as ensuring safe return home, we have decided to cancel the event for the entire day.”
The Decision and the Refunds
Tickets for Monday, September 21 will be refunded to all attendees. The showfloor will remain open today, September 20, with potential modifications.
Organizers made the call on safety first. The cancellation is a direct result of the storm’s expected intensity.
Typhoon Dujuan by the Numbers
Dujuan is the 25th named typhoon of 2026. It is predicted to dump the heaviest rainfall — almost 16 inches — on the Kanto region containing Tokyo.
Nippon Airways has canceled many flights in the region. The East Japan Railway is fully and partially suspending service on some lines.
The disruption will hit travel hard. Attendees who planned to stay over for Monday will need to change their plans.
