Bertie, Kelsey, Mat, Marie and Connor have each picked a game they’re still playing, and the latest round of “What We’ve Been Playing” shows five very different reasons to keep a game in hand, from a vampire’s quest troubles to a goose’s mischief.
Dawnwalker’s Broken Quest
Bertie is still playing Dawnwalker, the game he reviewed, and he’s doing it in every spare moment. He found some brilliant quests along the way, but the best moments were unintended. A bug locked two NPCs in endless combat during a review session, and fixing it required retracing steps and exploiting a vampire blink ability to get past a bookshelf blocking his path. The whole ordeal left him strangely elated.

Cats Breed Best on the Sofa
Kelsey turned to Mewgenics, Edmund McMillen’s game that also brought The Binding of Isaac to handheld. She confirmed she has zero regrets after realizing Mewgenics supports the Switch 2’s touch screen. That support means she spends any spare time curled up on her sofa, breeding her army of battle cats.
Between that and playing Silent Hill Townfall for work, she’s having a great time with games — though she admits her social life has suffered.
Mounted Warriors Get Melted
Mat’s Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave sessions focus on min-maxing character stats for specific events. His favorite tricks include:
- A heavily defensive unit whose sword melts through mounted units, so the enemy takes no damage on their turn but gets wrecked before the unit even moves
- An archer with a ring that boosts dodge chance against bow-wielding foes, imagined as a string-weaponry version of Enemy at the Gates
The rest of the game feels like padding. The social link conversations are lovely, but the wandering between fights is tedious. Fast travel doesn’t reach every quest dealer, and Mat compares it to bouncing off Marvel’s Midnight Sons and Star Wars Zero Company for the same reason.
A Goose Worth Helping
Marie is helping a goose spread fear in Untitled Goose Game. The missions include:
- Stealing toys from a table
- Locking a small child in a phone booth
- Honking at the gardener while moving a welly-boot as a distraction before stealing something else
Marie calls the goose a criminal genius and says she’s definitely enjoying being a chaos-helping accomplice.
Warcraft Devours Free Time
Connor has been captured by World of Warcraft: Forever beta, despite his best efforts. The level one-to-20 slice is a brief window, but it has made a strong first impression. He’s a fan of the Skyborne starting zone Zephras Isle, with its flowing grasslands and towering celestial pillars, especially with the new lighting effects.
November’s full release looms, and Connor admits it may eat his life entirely. Nothing else is coming out that month, so he’s ready for it.
A Full Week of Hooked Players
Each writer found a reason to keep playing. Bertie’s stuck in a broken ritual. Kelsey’s curled up with her cats. Mat’s melting mounted warriors. Marie’s helping a goose. Connor’s preparing for the boars and dungeons ahead.
