A flood is coming to the big screen, and Jennifer Lawrence is the one bringing it back.
Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have announced that Lawrence will star in Zach Cregger’s sci-fi thriller “The Flood.” Cregger will write, produce and direct the film, which is set for release on Aug. 11, 2028. Amblin Entertainment is serving as producer alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment.
Lawrence’s Recent Run
After picking up an Academy Award for 2012’s “Silver Linings Playbook,” Lawrence has spent the last several years moving back and forth between large franchises and smaller indie films. Among her more recent work is “Die My Love”, starring alongside Robert Pattinson, Gene Stupnitsky’s romantic comedy “No Hard Feelings”, and the A24 drama “Causeway.”.
She also stars in Martin Scorsese’s thriller “What Happens at Night,” and she’ll appear in the upcoming “Hunger Games” prequel “Sunrise on the Reaping.”
Cregger’s Track Record
Cregger reunites with Warner Bros. after the studio released his twisty 2025 horror mystery “Weapons.” That film followed his 2022 breakout “Barbarian,” which became a commercial and critical success, grossing $270 million worldwide off a budget of less than $40 million.
Amy Madigan received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as the malevolent Aunt Gladys, who takes a classroom full of children during the night while their teacher loses control and their parents watch too closely.
The Deal
Further casting and plot details remain undisclosed for now. The pairing has drawn praise from Warner Bros. co-chairs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy.
