FFXIV: How To Unlock Alexander Raids — Order, Rewards And Savage Difficulty

A guide to unlocking FFXIV's Alexander Raids, from the Heavensward MSQ through the Savage difficulty cap of 255.

By mitch·3 min read
A massive armored titan stands amid ruins and storms, ready for battle.

FFXIV players looking to unlock Alexander Raids need to finish the entire Heavensward Main Scenario Quest, up to Patch 3.0 missions. Once that story is done, the raid line opens, and it runs through twelve separate fights across three sections. Each one carries its own name, its own gear requirement, and its own reward.

The Path To Alexander

The journey starts in Idyllshire, a settlement of treasure hunters in the Dravanian Hinterlands. Players speak to Slowfix, the figurehead for the town’s goblins, who hands out the quest “Disarmed.” That quest begins the Alexander arc. Later stops include visits to Backtrix at the Bigwest Shortstop, and a return trip to the goblin camp before the first raid becomes available.

The first raid, “The Fist of the Father” or A1N, asks players to enter Alexander’s body and clear threats. Its required Item level is 170. The second raid, “The Cuff of the Father” or A2N, follows, along with “The Arm of the Father” or A3N, and the final Gordias raid, “The Burden of the Father” or A4N.

Midas And Beyond

Once Gordias is cleared, the Midas section opens. It holds four more raids: “The Fist of the Son” or A5N, “The Cuff of the Son” or A6N, “The Arm of the Son” or A7N, and “The Burden of the Son” or A8N. Those raids ask for Item Level 200 instead of the 170 needed for Gordias.

The third and final section is The Creator. It raises the bar again, with a minimum Item Level of 230. The first activity there is “The Eyes of the Creator” or A9N, followed by “The Breath of the Creator” or A10N, which unlocks “The Heart of the Creator” or A11N. The final raid, “The Soul of the Creator” or A12N, closes the sequence.

What Players Get Out Of It

Completing the normal difficulties of each section unlocks their Savage versions. That means finishing all four Gordias raids opens the Savage difficulty of those first four. The Wandering Minstrel at X: 21.7, Y: 8.7 in Mor Dhona handles the unlocking, and Savage raids require a higher Item level, starting at 190 for Gordias and rising in five-point increments.

Savage raids offer better rewards, including the Arrhidaeus Master Key for an exclusive mount. The final boss, Alexander Prime, can wipe a party even on normal difficulty. Team coordination and patience are key.

The Order Of Raids

Here is the full order:

  • Gordias: A1N, A2N, A3N, A4N
  • Midas: A5N, A6N, A7N, A8N
  • The Creator: A9N, A10N, A11N, A12N

Each raid has its own story beat and its own challenge. The paper’s honest reaction to this story is amusement: the source spends a dozen paragraphs listing every raid, boss, and unlockable in exact order, which is both exhaustive and oddly endearing, like a treasure hunter’s map drawn in loving detail.

– Unlock: Complete all Heavensward MSQ up to Patch 3.0
– Required Item level for first raid: 170
