“The Punisher: One Last Kill” closes out the Punisher’s MCU arc with a tight, violent hour of TV. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Green and Jon Bernthal, it runs 51 minutes and lands as the third Special Presentation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing continuity with the films and shows of the franchise. This is the second MCU production centered on the character after the Netflix series “The Punisher” (2017–2019), which was produced by the previous Marvel Television company.
Frank Castle, played by Bernthal, kills members of the Gnucci Crime Family believed to be behind his family’s deaths. The Gnucci’s old territory in New York City’s Little Sicily neighborhood fills with crime. Castle lives there, haunted by ghosts of his past. He locks up his Punisher gear, walks to his family’s graves to kill himself, and is stopped by a hallucination of his daughter Lisa.

Ghosts of His Past
Castle’s mind fills with people from his history. Curtis Hoyle, a former U.S. Navy SARC and friend, haunts him as a figment. Karen Page, a former reporter and law firm partner with Matt Murdock, visits him as well. Judith Light plays Ma Gnucci, the matriarch of the Gnucci Crime Family, who puts a bounty on Castle’s head after he killed her husband and three sons.
The special keeps the chaos focused. Castle is cornered by Gnucci, who reveals she has placed a bounty on his head, drawing every common criminal in the area. A small army of criminals enters the apartment complex and attacks residents looking for Castle. When his room catches fire, Castle fights his way to the rooftop and jumps off.

Finding Meaning
Bernthal wanted the special to move Castle from a place of “absolute vengeance” to somewhere he could find meaning. He told reporters he hoped the film would get Frank “from this place in his life where he is reeling and spiraling out of control,” adding that the special would get “to the essential question of who he is.”
“Get Frank from this place in his life where he is reeling and spiraling out of control, a man who is set on absolute vengeance, to a place where he can find some meaning, where he can find something new to fight for.”
The film delivers on that promise. Castle decides he still has work to do as the Punisher, returning to the streets with a new costume and arsenal. He stops a group of thugs from attacking innocent people and kills their leader.
A Short Fight
The film moves fast. At 51 minutes, it never drags. The action is brutal and controlled, with Castle dispatching criminals in quick, ruthless bursts. The special’s title, “One Last Kill,” suggests closure. Instead, it offers a new beginning.
Judith Light brings a commanding presence as Ma Gnucci, and Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page appears as a ghostly presence that both scolds and comforts Castle. Andre Royo plays Dre, a shopkeeper, and Mila Jaymes plays Charli, Dre’s daughter. The film ends with Charli giving Castle a paper rose, which he puts on Lisa’s grave.
The special is a tight, violent hour of TV that respects its source material while moving the character forward. It earns its score of 8.3 out of 10.
