Hideo Kojima has confirmed he has a cameo in a major live-action movie — and he won’t say which one. The Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator told fans during a surprise episode of the Koji10 podcast that he has already filmed a few scenes for a “big movie,” but he refuses to name the project.
“I already shot a few other things,” Kojima said, as translated through YouTube’s English captions. “Directors and others have asked me to.”
Kojima’s Secret Cameo
Kojima’s reveal came as he was discussing his work on Physint, his new espionage action game starring Bill Skarsgård. He also touched on OD, his horror game, and his plans for two major anime titles. But the cameo news was the clear crowd-pleaser.
The Japanese version of the Pixar film Zootopia 2 featured Kojima doing voice work as a mole, but he said that this new project would put him in front of the camera. He shot the scenes, and directors asked him to do it, but he would not say which movie it is.
“I can’t say what it is yet, but it is a big movie.”
He also refused to tell his podcast hosts where he shot his part. That level of secrecy suggests the cameo is genuinely unannounced.
What Fans Are Guessing
No one knows which movie Kojima is in, so fans are guessing. The speculation runs wild, from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part 3, which hits theaters this December, to The Legend of Zelda movie, to next month’s Godzilla Minus Zero.
One fan went further, suggesting Kojima might show up in Avengers: Doomsday. That guess has no basis in reality, but it captures the spirit of the moment: Kojima is a beloved figure in games, and seeing him on screen anywhere would be a treat.
Kojima’s own social media biography jokes that “70% of my body is made of movies,” so it is no surprise he wants to be more involved in film. He has reviewed Superman, Backrooms, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and more, and he clearly enjoys the medium.
The Anime Plans
Kojima also said he is working on two “major anime” titles. These are “really big” but still a mystery for audiences, with the developer only saying that he has speaking lines coming up. He has not named either project, and he described both as secrets.
His game cameo history is not new either. Fans have already found evidence that he was scanned for Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. That project remains a secret, just like the anime titles.
Physint and OD
Kojima is still heads-down on Physint, the espionage action game starring Bill Skarsgård. During the podcast, he offered an update on the game’s progress, teasing that many of the characters’ names have already been decided and that their actors have been scanned.
He is also working on OD, his horror game. Both projects are moving forward, but neither has a release date attached.
The Speculation Continues
For now, the speculation will continue. Kojima has confirmed the cameo, confirmed it is live-action, and confirmed it is a big movie. He has not confirmed the movie’s title, the director, or the role he plays.
The guessing will likely narrow as the holiday season approaches. Dune: Part 3 is the most obvious candidate, given its December release. But Kojima has a history of surprising fans, and he may have picked a smaller project that nobody expected.
Either way, the wait is on. Fans will keep watching the trailers, reading the credits, and checking the IMDb listings until Kojima finally shows up on screen.
The cameo is real. The movie is big. The name is still a mystery. That is the whole story.
