A restaurant owner confronts a young man in street clothes near the entrance while staff watch.

A restaurant owner says a new hire showed up to his own firing determined to argue about it — and the confrontation is now playing out for 86,600 TikTok viewers.

Buddy, who runs a restaurant and posts as @buddy.love711, said he fired an employee named Drew on his first day after Drew missed multiple scheduled orientations. The video has drawn 163 comments, with several questioning Drew’s decision to challenge the owner rather than walk away quietly.

The Repeated No-Shows

Buddy said he agreed to hire Drew even though Drew told him he would need two weeks’ notice before starting because he had another job. Buddy rescheduled the orientation once, and then again when Drew’s other employer asked him to stay a few more days.

“I thought this guy was gonna be an asset for us,” Buddy says in the video.

The next orientation was set for the following week. When the day arrived, Drew said he was having car trouble and asked to reschedule again. Buddy agreed but made the terms clear.

“I get it, out of his control,” he says. “But the fact that I’ve tried to bring this guy on already two different times and it keeps getting pushed back is really annoying. So I let him know, ‘Hey, I don’t have an issue with that, I’m gonna give you this other date, but you have to be here for this orientation date. I’ve moved it twice already. I will not move it again.'”

Drew said he understood.

The Confrontation

Thirty minutes before the rescheduled orientation, Drew called to say he was sick. Buddy told him the job probably would not work out if he missed this orientation.

Buddy started the orientation with the other employee who was scheduled to begin alongside Drew. Fifteen minutes in, Drew showed up. Buddy said he assumed Drew had decided to attend despite being sick and told him to sit down.

Instead, Drew confronted him.

“No, I’m here to call you out on my b——t,” Buddy recalled Drew saying.

According to Buddy, Drew cited the employee handbook’s policy on illness and argued that his firing violated it. Buddy responded by pointing to the handbook’s own terms.

“I’m guessing you missed the part on page nine section 8 that says that you need to give us a two-hour notice if you are sick and not gonna come to work,” Buddy said.

He then told Drew to leave the restaurant and ended his employment.

Commenters Weigh In

Commenters were largely on Buddy’s side, though some raised a question about whether the handbook applied to Drew at all.

  • “I can’t find a job and this dude is dodging a job WTF,” one said.
  • Another said Buddy “dodged a bullet.”
  • A third argued the handbook only applies to actual employees, and Drew was not one yet.

“If I remember correctly, the employee handbook is for ACTUAL employees & a person ISN’T an employee until they’ve started orientation. that means nothing in it applies beforehand. dude’s audacity is mind boggling,” that commenter wrote.

The other employee remained at the orientation while Buddy and Drew discussed the situation.

What’s Not Known

The Daily Dot was unable to independently verify the events described in the TikTok video. The details come solely from Buddy’s account, and neither Drew nor the other employee has been independently identified or contacted for comment.

Whether Drew’s handbook argument had any merit is a question the video cannot answer. According to Buddy’s account, he moved an orientation three times, set a firm boundary, and then held to it when that boundary was tested.
