Netflix’s Love 101 is a Turkish teen comedy-drama about friendship, love, and the courage to be yourself. Created by Meriç Acemi, the series follows four misfits and a model student who band together to save their beloved teacher from being relocated. The Setup
The story opens in present-day Istanbul with a woman named Işık arriving at an old house. She recalls her youth and her friends. Flash back to 1998, where a group of students at a school in Istanbul face expulsion due to their poor behavior. They are Eda, Osman, Sinan, and Kerem — very different from their classmates, therefore very lonely. The headmaster and most of the teachers are against them, but one teacher, Burcu, protects the teenagers.
Burcu learns she will be relocated, which means all of them will be expelled after her departure. To stop this, the students devise a plan. According to the law, she can choose her place of work by herself if she is married. So they decide to make Burcu fall in love with the teacher Kemal, so she can stay in Istanbul.
The Plan Unfolds
The scheme hits a snag when they learn Burcu is already in a “happy” relationship. That makes the task harder than expected. They recruit Işık, an excellent student with a big heart, to join their group. Her presence helps the students change for the better, understand themselves, and realize the importance of true friendship.
Eda aspires to be a graphic designer, despite her family wanting her to make money and move up in society. Osman is a young entrepreneur trying to hustle his way out of poverty by finding gigs. Sinan struggles to keep his life together, always sipping from his hip flask since he began living with his senile grandfather at age 14.
Kerem, the fourth member of the group, rounds out the quartet. The four misfits have little in common with their classmates, which leaves them isolated at school. But Burcu treats them differently, and her protection becomes the thread that binds them together.

What Works
The show earns its warmth through the bond between its characters. Eda, Osman, Sinan, and Kerem form a tight unit that stands against the school’s authority figures. Their loyalty to each other is the engine of the story. When Işık joins the group, she brings a fresh perspective that helps everyone grow.
The central romance between Burcu and Kemal is a quiet anchor. Kemal’s role in the marriage plot is essential to the students’ plan, and the show handles the stakes carefully. The plan hinges on Kemal’s willingness to go along with the scheme, and the show tracks his reactions with care throughout.
Where It Falls Short
The pacing drags in stretches. Some episodes feel like filler, padding the story between key plot points. The stakes are also uneven. The threat of expulsion is serious, but the show spends long stretches on small moments that dilute the urgency.
The flash-forward framing device, where Işık narrates from the future, occasionally breaks the tension rather than building it. It works best when used sparingly.
