Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions gives four Spider-Men one job and almost gets away with it. Beenox built a 2010 action-adventure around the Tablet of Order and Chaos, shattered in a fight between the Amazing Spider-Man and Mysterio. Madame Web sends four heroes across the multiverse to collect the pieces.
Neil Patrick Harris Leads the Voice Cast
The hook is the cast. Neil Patrick Harris voices the Amazing Spider-Man, Christopher Daniel Barnes takes Spider-Man Noir, Dan Gilvezan plays Spider-Man 2099, and Josh Keaton is Ultimate Spider-Man. Each had voiced the character in a prior animated series. That is fan service done with actual care.
Kraven Drags Spider-Man Into a Jungle
The plot moves through villains. Kraven the Hunter drags the Amazing Spider-Man into a jungle trial, then reneges and uses a fragment to gain powers. Noir’s Hammerhead fuses his arms with his guns and plots against Norman Osborn. Spider-Man 2099 fights a cyborg Hobgoblin who builds illusions. Ultimate Spider-Man battles Electro at a hydro-electric dam.
Stealth in Noir, Brawls in Ultimate
Gameplay alternates between the four, who control identically but play differently. Noir levels push stealth. Ultimate levels lean on large-scale combat. Bosses usually fight twice, the second round powered by the Tablet and forcing a strategy change. Brief first-person sequences hand you Spider-Man’s arms. The 16 alternate costumes are cosmetic only. The Nintendo DS version, by Griptonite Games, has just three Spider-Men.
Points Buy Upgrades and Costumes
Upgrades and moves cost points earned by beating enemies or clearing Web of Destiny challenges. It is a clean loop, and it is also the game’s ceiling. Four styles, one skeleton.
Beenox Took Over From Treyarch
Shattered Dimensions is the first Spider-Man game Beenox made after Activision handed it the license, replacing Treyarch. It is a solid handoff, not a landmark.
| Chapter | Spider-Man | Villain |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Amazing | Mysterio |
| 2 | Noir | Hammerhead |
| 3 | 2099 | Hobgoblin |
| 4 | Ultimate | Electro |
The voice cast is the reason to play this. The four-way structure is the reason it wears thin. Score: 7.4 of 10.
