Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare puts players in the shoes of Private Jack Mitchell, a soldier caught up in a war fought across the globe. The game trades the familiar setting of World War II and its sequels for a future where private military companies wield armies and drones. That shift changes how the series plays, and mostly for the better.

The Campaign

The campaign follows Mitchell as he fights alongside the exo-suit-wearing General John MacMillan to take down the global arms dealer Rurik Arkhangelsky. The story leans on action set pieces rather than quiet character moments, but the pacing holds up across its dozen chapters. MacMillan’s presence gives the story some weight, even when the script leans on familiar military thriller tropes.

The exo-suits themselves are the star of the show. Players move faster, jump higher and fire harder while wearing them, and the game lets them switch in and out of exo mode mid-mission. It is a simple addition, but it changes how every fight plays out.

Multiplayer and the Exo Suit

The multiplayer modes carry over the exo-suit systems, letting players call in vehicles, drones and other gear during matches. The suite of modes includes classic team deathmatch, free-for-all and a new mode called Grief. The gunplay feels tighter than in recent entries, and the exo suit adds a layer of vertical movement that older Call of Duty titles never offered.

The game also introduces a progression system tied to the exo suit, letting players unlock new abilities and gear over time. This system rewards returning to multiplayer sessions, giving the mode a sense of purpose beyond simply winning matches.

Loadout Table

Mode Primary Weapon Secondary Weapon Equipment
Team Deathmatch Assault Rifle Pistol Grenades
Free-for-All SMG Knife Tactical Insertion
Grief Sniper Rifle Sidearm UAV

The loadout table shows the standard setup across each mode. Players can mix and match weapons and equipment to build a unique setup.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is not a reinvention, but it is a solid entry in the series. The exo suit systems add real depth to both the campaign and multiplayer, and the gunplay remains sharp. The story is thin, and the multiplayer modes are familiar, but the technical improvements make it one of the stronger entries in the franchise.
