A Taste of Montrose: Where to Eat in the City

A guide to Montrose's best eats, from Michelin-starred dining rooms to barbecue joints and street food.

Houston’s Montrose neighborhood is a cultural hub, and its restaurant scene is now officially mapped. Eater has published a guide to the neighborhood’s essential eateries, from Michelin-starred fine dining to casual barbecue joints, all packed into a single area.

This collection, called “The Best Restaurants in Montrose,” is built around street food, barbecue, Gulf-inspired dishes, and a Michelin-starred tasting menu restaurant. Two new entries have been added since the last edition: Nobie’s and BCN Taste and Tradition.

The Michelin Stars

The Michelin Guide has recognized Montrose’s dining scene, awarding two one-star restaurants while also giving several Bib Gourmand nods to other establishments.

The Vietnamese eatery Annam sits within Autry Park, and it has earned a 2025 Bib Gourmand award. Its chef, Kaytee Nguyen, turns out Central Vietnamese fare in a French-style dining room adorned with hand-carved arches and glittering chandeliers. Among the small plates, guests can try wagyu grilled before being wrapped in betel leaf, along with chicken wings coated in fish sauce and honey. For entrees, the menu offers a whole deboned Cornish hen rubbed with five-spice, paprika, and Vietnamese coriander, alongside Ora King salmon cooked in caramelized fish sauce in a clay pot.

The Japanese Set

The Harlow District hideaway known as Katami serves a menu centered on 10-piece nigiri or sashimi. Under the direction of Chef Manabu “Hori” Horiuchi, the cooking mirrors the exacting style of Kata Robata. Among the standout dishes are the mushroom and sushi rice cooked in a hot stone, alongside the toro tartare featuring fatty tuna paired with a quail egg and Japanese milk bread. The cocktail program is equally notable, highlighted by the Sunomono Sour, which blends white rum, pineapple, coconut liqueur, and sesame oil.

Uchi, originally from Austin, is described as one of Houston’s best sushi destinations. Its Montrose location offers classics like the hama chili, spicy crunchy tuna, bluefin tuna selections, and the fried milk dessert. The “hot tastings” include oak-grilled escolar with candied citrus, ponzu, and myoga, plus a selection of Australian wagyu seared on hot rocks. Happy hour runs weekdays from 4 to 6 p.m., with wine and food discounted.

Mexican, Spanish, and More

For over ten years, Cuchara has put Mexico City’s cooking on display in Montrose. Its weekend brunch menu offers huevos divorciados, micheladas, and café de olla, a coffee sweetened with Mexican sugar. The lunch and dinner list covers mole negro turkey breasts, pork belly stuffed into gorditas, and Veracruz-style red snapper. The address is 214 Fairview Ave Ste A, Houston, TX, 77006, and the place takes orders through Grubhub.

The Spanish restaurant Mi Luna draws on Moorish influences in its cuisine. It ran in Rice Village between 1998 and 2018, after which it came back to Houston at the Montrose Collective in 2024. Dishes such as paella Valenciana and Gambas al Ajillo pay tribute to owner Youssef Nafaa’s heritage, while pescaditos fritos and fried fish with lemon zest aioli bring something else to the table. The tapas menu is built for sharing among diners.

Sof Hospitality has come to Montrose Collective through Októ. The chefs behind it, Yotam Dolev of Hamsa and Hai Avnaim of Doris Metropolitan, have joined forces on a burger patty that combines ground steak and foie gras. It is topped with red wine onion jam and melted Comté cheese. The lighter menu items include razor-thin slices of tuna carpaccio and a branzino that is seared in a tomato gazpacho.
